The W460 paint code compilation project

So coming from the classic watercooled VW world (I also have a '76 VW Rabbit w/ 58,000 original miles--Rallye Yellow L10A is the color name), there has been info gathered by enthusiasts on everything from exterior paint codes to graphics/pinstripes to interior colors to option packages to original recall notices, etc. Before I try to bite off WAY more than I can chew, I'd first like to start by compiling a historical database of the exterior paint codes offered by Mercedes-Benz on W460's(I have love for the W461's and W463's but I'd like to concentrate on the W460's first.). For example, this compilation of VW Rabbit paint codes is what I am trying to emulate; http://www.mk1vw.info/paint1.php
In regards to the W460 info, I'd also like to try to find out which colors were offered which years and in which countries, if certain colors were only available on certain models, what exterior stripes/graphics were offered, etc...most importantly I want to gather pictures of real life W460's to accompany these color codes so that everyone can see what the heck Gentian Blue looks like in real life.

That being said, I really need YOUR help with this endeavor. If you have old brochures with pictures of colors offered for specific years/models/countries and/or stripes/graphics, color charts, etc, please contact me with them. If you have pictures of G's with missing colors(ie colors not already found posted below), please contact me with those. This project won't be successful without your contributions. THANK YOU in advance!!!

First, some helpful info via EddieG(needamerc) on where your color code # is located;

"On a W460, see the lower plate, top four digit code, 9735.
At times it takes some interpreting, cross-reference with RAL codes and 3 digit MB codes."

Keep in mind that there appears to be no pattern to the first digit before the 3 digit MB color code...some vehicles have a 1, some a 5, some a 7, some a 9 as the prefix. Only the last 3 digits matter.

Factory color charts...

1980: 5 standard colors(Creamy White and Wheat Yellow look too yellowy and Agave Green looks too black here);

1981: 22 optional metallic colors;

1983-1984: four new metallic paints on right side of chart;

Also, RAL chart(~Euro standardization);

Real life G colors(in alphabetical order);
Agate Green DB815

Agave Green DB6880

Anthracite Grey Metallic DB7172

Astral Silver Metallic DB735

Carmine Red RAL3002/DB3535

Creamy White RAL9001

Cypress Green DB876

Fir Green DB6295/RAL6009

Gentian Blue DB5361/RAL5010

Lapis Blue DB932

Light Ivory DB1623/RAL1015

Magenta Red Metallic DB???(waiting on Hus55)

Sky Blue RAL5015

Zinc Yellow RAL1018

AGAIN, I NEED YOUR HELP IN GATHERING MORE PICTURES OF THE REAL LIFE G COLORS NOT ALREADY FOUND IN THIS THREAD(I DON'T NEED DOUBLES UNLESS THE QUALITY OF YOURS TRUMPS THE QUALITY OF ONE HERE). PLEASE PM ME WITH THIS INFO!!!

PS--If any of my colors or info is incorrect, please advise. Thank you!!
PPS--A very special thanks to Dutch, Harald, Eddie, Dave, Steve, Tom, Woody, John, etc...

TIA!
Jeremy

Canadian Military G close look

Hi everyone.
I went to my local MB dealer today and I instantly had an adrenalin rush as soon as I saw a Military G marked in front of shop door. I have been told that It was brought to get serviced. They did not tell me what is wrong. I did not know that army does not have their own technician to service their own vehicles since It can be critical to fix them in the field.
I took a look at it closely. It was a 3 seater and There was a complex partition barrier around a feet after rear barn doors.
You can see it is a work horse for the army. looking well used. Scratches all over.
Passenger side dash handle is made out of metal not covered with plastic.
there is inner frame inside door panels looking like second doors. Perhaps something to do with armour. Very heavy duty two dash mounts. Rear lights are different then civilian. Fuel tank has small protection plate, almost half is uncovered. There is huge lockable metal box inside behind driver probably for guns and ammo.
More things that you noticed different then you thought?
Motto

Oman and the UAE

G'day all,

As you know there are a lot of G's out here in the UAE so I thought I would start a thread where the various owners can share their photo's and regional trip reports.

I have a foot in 2 camps with an older G55 and 2 Land Rovers, my Defender is my main off roader so some of the trip reports maybe biased toward Land Rovers but there will be G contents in each of the trip posted.

I will kick off with a few photo's and run down on my G55.

After being a long time Land Rover Defender owner I stumbled across an immaculate 2000 G55 Classic with on 61000 kms on the clock & could not resist the purchase. Current milage 78500 km.

I am yet to determine its exact role in its previous life, but it started out with the Dubai Government as a part of the Royal Fleet, then was briefly owned by a 3rd party who sold it for a profit after it was released from the Governments fleet. The next owner who was a German lovingly owned if for around 4 years and sold it due to circumstance of a growing family & the need for a GL500.

It is a 99 build with a M113.982 Engine, I think it was probably part of the security detail as it has an armoured vehicle front axle which is heavily braced, ORC +40mm rear springs, 3rd row seats, factory fitted siren and a communication system where you communicate externally without having to lower the windows. It also still has a pistol holster in place next to the drivers leg.

Apart from a few minor scratches & paint chips it is in as new condition, there are not many vehicles of this age in this condition so it was a sale I could not refuse.

For the time being the G55 will remain my daily drive & tourer and my long suffering 110 will remain my vehicle of choice for heavy duty off roading as it is better set up and does not matter if damaged.

To date other than taking care of a few minor issues and I have fitted a set of 285/60/18's to make it a better all rounder.

http://cdr.smugmug.com/Off-Road/G-Wagon/

My "New" 1995 G320

I picked up this very low mileage G320 from Germany earlier this year. It was imported with the help of a German acquaintance. Shipped to Long Beach California and federalized in Sacramento. It was 7 months from when I purchased it and finally received it in Portland Oregon. The last owner had turned 80 years old and stopped driving. He bought the car in 1996 and owned it for almost 20 years. The rear seats are the split leather bench that looks like they have never been used.

I pulled off the Atik rims that had a lot of flakey paint and put on a set of ET43 18" Ashtaroths with 33" tires. The 215 HP of this little in-line 6 m104 motor pushes the big tires around no problem. I have been working on some small deferred maintenance issues, but the car is in amazing condition.

I drove to Bend yesterday to pick up the rebuilt transaxle for my 78 Bus and visited with Kent and Kelly there as well. They bought my old beauty 460 300GD in 2008. I got a few nice pics at a stop on the Deschutes River just south of the Warm Springs reservation.
:cheers:
