New to me - 2003 C32 AMG!

Hello all:

Still resto-modding my 1980 300GD (Gelandewagen) with the OM606 superturbodiesel and a 5-speed transmission with O/D. That project is taking years and in the mean time, I found a steal but I guess now I'm paying for it.

Yesterday, I picked up a 2003 C32 AMG in SoCal! Today, my engine light came on and I pulled the following codes:

P0422
P0432

Simplest research tells me these are the Bank 1 and Bank 2 O2 sensors getting a faulty reading, but now I'm digging deeper and the consensus seems to be it's highly unlikely both cats have failed at the same time. I've found Bosch sensors on Amazon that will require some splicing for $55 and ones with the correct harness for around $80 each... but now I'm reading it's more likely the MAP sensor is faulty and causing the bad readings (learned there's no MAF sensor in this car... neat!).

There's no stuttering in the engine or transmission (runs beautifully for 166,000 miles) but despite me playing around with it, MPGs are low (11.9 - 13.8).

Any thoughts, fellow motor heads? I'd rather not spend a fortune on both O2 sensors, the MAF and then find out it's my cats...

Photo DIY- M113 (BRABUS CV8) Spark Plug Change

Based on G-AMG's fantastic photo DIY on his G55,

http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=17088&posts=3#M182310

I decided with the gain confidence to give my BRABUS CV8 the same kind of TLC, it's was quite an experience, I ended up taking 2 days to finish my work on the car, the W203 C Class chassis retrofitted M113 V8 is a tight quarter to work with!! Nonetheless, G-AMG gave me all the confidence. Kudos to G-AMG.

Attached are some photos of my experience.

Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic lubricants

I know that when I bought my current C class, it was delivered with Mobil 1 oil. I read somewhere in the car's literature pack, that Mercedes and Mobil had entered into a world wide supply agreement.
I must say that I was introduced to this particular product in the 80's and have run all my Mercs on it with what can only be descibed as very satisfying results.
Apart from having to have my G Wagen engine completely overhauled as a result of a burst heater valve, all my vehicles have run completely trouble free; I estimate some 500000Kms in total over the last 25 years.
I have also installed similar synthetic products from Mobil in my G Wagen gearbox and diffs.
I would ask of fellow members for their views/ comments.
I read somewhere in this forum that some USA members prefer an American alternative.

front brake job c230

Well, my daughter has 20,000 miles on her '06 C230, and the front brake discs are extremely groovy(not in that Austin Powers kind of way). She will be home for the holidays & I thought it would be a good time to pull a brake job. I've done my share of brake jobs, just not on Mercs. Are there any tricks you might like to share about the actual job, where to source the parts(2 front discs & the pads) where they don't take an arm & a leg? I'm all ears.

Bob

2005 C55 AMG trans. ?

Greetings all,

I looked at one of these cars when they first came out. At work I recently spoke with someone who did the AMG driving experience. We got on this topic because I was talking to him about moving away from my CLK55 AMG Cabriolet, to a Cl55, or 600 coupe. I have also been considering an E55. What was interesting about his comment was that at the end of the day, his favorite fun to drive AMG, was the C55. While the power to weight is as favorable(360ish HP, compared to the higher near 500hp of the bigger cars, lb.s/hp C55=9.4, E55=8.96, Cl55=9.3ish hard to find a weight on internet for this car), the E55's longer wheel base wasn't as much fun on the track as the C55.

My real question, is about the transmission in the C55. Is it the same unit the larger 55 cars run. This could be a great starting point to upgrade the engine to the status of a blown AMG car (Kleeman Kit, etc.) if the trans is the same unit that is ran in the bigger cars.

Anyone know? I'll contine to research, I just could use some suggested sources of information.

THX

W 203 Crankshaft Position Sensor Location

This forum was extremely helpful in determining problem with my stalling car. I know its the crankshaft position sensor and I bought the right part.

Here is the problem, I cannot locate where it is? Before you blast me. I have searched this and multiple forums and found multiple threads saying where it is located (for E-Class, ML etc) but none for W203 C Class.

I checked each and every location in threads I found and I am pretty good with maintaining my C 320 myself but could not find it. I have the engine cover etc removed but cannot see it anywhere.

Can someone please tell me where it is located on 2001 C Class? Please don't tell me if you have not checked on C class because I think ML's have this in a different location.

Thanks,
Sean
2001 C 320
