Odd phenomenon W221 2007 S550 4matic - shaking, loss of abs, power steering

Hello! I'm here today specifically for help with my grandpa's 2007 S550 4matic (~89,500 miles).

We went on a drive, and what seems to be separate systems started going haywire.

Red battery, engine, ABS, and ESP lights and warnings going off, power steering issues, window buttons not working, some shaking, and weak acceleration and little to no reverse ability (sometimes!). I believe I also saw the coolant light show up on the speedometer screen momentarily. I even felt the ABS not work in the brakes. Also, the car actually cut off during the drive but we were able to restart. Luckily we were close to his house and able to drive it home, called MB Roadside and had it towed to MB Manhattan.

First symptom seemed to be the red battery logo appearing earlier this week. Next symptom was the AC. Only this past week it chose to not work some days. It did work today of course of all days while this commotion was going on. Everything else seemed fine up until today. Also, today was the first time the COMMAND went completely blank.

It's really a strange phenomenon. I guess after 13 years with little problems, we knew this day might come.
Hopefully, it's not as expensive as it seems to be or as complicated of an issue.
Please note that after a restart, it sometimes operates fine.
I have a feeling it's computer related.
My dad thinks it's as simple as the belt and said I should've waited for him to come see it before we decided to tow it lol.

Any guidance would be appreciated! I'd like to have some background knowledge before the dealer calls me about the situation tomorrow.

It's also due for Service C in 15 days.

Also, if anyone has any good experience with third party extended warranties, I'm interested to learn more!
My grandpa got the extended warranty from Mercedes at the time, but of course it's expired at this point.
I don't believe there was even an option to get another one from them after that.

Thank you very much, and I hope everyone is well and safe!

2007 W221 S600 V12

I bought an Ambassadors 2007 S600 private limo (confirmed State Dept car on CarFax) in April 2018. It had 55K miles, a Designo leather interior, and had service records since the dawn of time. Also bought a +50K warranty for another $5700. Took the car on two 1,000 mile trips to Florida and back. Did regular maintenance including replacing ABC valve block and hoses, one lower control arm, and a few repairs to the radiator/fans, new tires, fluid changes, etc. Car runs smooth and fast. I love it. Great turnpike cruiser. Faster than my C5 and very comfy on long trips.

Now has 66K miles and getting ready for another trip to Florida. Took it to the dealer and they found another bad control arm (the other side and it did squeek a little), bad engine mounts, and the starter battery was low voltage. Warranty says they will cover engine mounts and control arm but only half the alignment (one side!). I popped for the battery.

Had a few yellow codes for evap leaks but a new gas cap fixed those. Got a code for a crankshaft position sensor (0335) but it was only one time and cleared itself (I am thinking low voltage from the battery).

S600 is by far the best car I have ever driven.

Hi Folks,

Decided to replace my 2007 S550 with a 2003 G55, cause we needed a utility vehicle and the choices my wife offered were the G500 or G55. Oh well, since I only have a two car garage, the S550 is for sale.

Its classy, luxurious, very fast and very well maintained. I'm the 2nd owner, but I've got all of the service records since new and the condition speaks for itself.

The car is in Palo Alto, CA, so feel free to take a look and let me know if anyone is interested.

Video:Youtube: http://bit.ly/1haZIkT
Photos: https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A3GY8gBYGliRMV

Thanks for looking.

Vinay

S600 vs. 760Li vs. A8L W12

Okay, personal bias aside which one do you prefer more? What are your pros and cons for each vehicle?
S600: I love the overall styling of it. Sporty, and agressive, yet elegant, and smotth flowing. I love the interior looks, the whole dash being computer generated. Interior Ambient Lighting as well. Power, man that thing can put out tons of torqure and horsepower, don't know how I'd use it. What I don't like is the steering wheel shape, a little odd looking for me.
760Li: The facelift is much easier on the eyes, I personally would very much consider it. The interior is little lost on me. But the ride is very nice, stiff when you need it, soft when you want it.
A8L W12: Okay, I consider this to be the best of both worlds. You have the nice Quattro being standard, which is a must here in MI. The interior styling and exterior as well, top notch, IMO. And it looked really nice in the Transporter 2.

4th Place - Good Car, Bad Car

Jeremy Clarkson said:4th: Mercedes-Benz S 500Quality street to not show photographer information --> to not show image description --> to not show enlarge option -->
Mercedes doesn’t know how to build a bad luxury saloon and its latest may well be remembered as the best of all. Highlights include a wonderfully spacious and comfortable interior, perhaps the best ride quality of any car on the road and a superb new 5.5 litre 383bhp V8 motor. Unlike so many other luxury cars, this one is also good fun to drive hard on a decent road. Better still, from what I gather Mercedes is finally getting to grips with its recent quality problems.
Mercedes S-class: Prices start at £54,975 for the standard wheelbase S 320 CDI and extend up to a whopping £101,955 for the long- wheelbase S 600, and that’s before you’ve started ticking items like night vision cameras on the options list.

2008 S600 Guard Pullman Limo

STUTTGART, Germany — Monarchs and heads of state — or those with bank accounts approaching monarchical levels — will soon be able to step into the latest Mercedes-Benz limo, the S600 Guard Pullman, a behemoth that puts a premium on personal protection.

The new armored Pullman limousine is based on the long version of the S600 with a "substantially extended wheelbase length," said the German automaker. Among its unique selling points: Its armor resists military-standard small-arms projectiles and provides protection against fragments from hand grenades and other explosive devices. Standard features include run-flat tires, a self-sealing fuel tank and a fire-extinguishing system.

The Pullman is powered by a 12-cylinder biturbo engine with a displacement of 5,513cc and an output of 517 horses and peak torque of 612 pound-feet. The automaker said options include a choice of paint finishes, leathers and woods. "Even the most unusual of customer requests can be met," Mercedes-Benz said in a statement. The limo is designed to hold four passengers in the rear and has a rear entrance with increased headroom.

The nameplate is derived from Pullman railroad sleeping cars.

It was Obsidian Black. Didn't see the interior. Although it was badass, it seemed pointless. With the traffic here, you'd only get past the turbo lag, then you'd have to brake again. :ahhh:
