270CDI Transmission Cooling - HELP!

Hi all,

I'm trying to fit an extra Tranny cooling radiator to my 270CDI so I can tow without the oil overheating. I've already purchased a radiator on the assumption that the small/existing MB radiator (at the front) would be easy to tap into (simple rubber hoses). But just to be sure I got under the car today to trace the pipe routing. It's very hard to see/feel what's what but it seems that the Tranny oil forward and return lines (steel pipes and connectors just go straight to the Aluminium Heat exchanger box (just behind the oil filter) and the two hoses from the small MB Radiator go off the the left side of the engine somewhere(?). Pictures of this small MB Radiator (on Google) always state "Transmission Oil Cooler" yet I can't figure out how its connected to the Tranny box lines at all.

I have asked before (in another thread) but got no answer. Is there anyone that has this information on the Transmission Cooling System (for my car) that and share this with me?

Many thanks.
Neo

ML 320 2002 Coolant leak

Hi All Hail from Oz,
I have a 2002 ML320 and its just sprung a green leak!
Let me run through some observations: It doesn't leak while the engine is running
It only leaks after I switch off engine.
It only leaks a set amount ....about 300mls ( a half Pint)
There is no oil present in the coolant.
There is no coolant present in engine oil.
While the engine is running the exhaust colour is normal, not white.
While the engine is running the cooling system pressurises,so not head gasket.
Replaced top and bottom radiator hoses.
Facing the car the leak appears near centre front approx. where the bottom hose enters radiator which made me originally assume
it was a perished hose.
After a weekend of changing hoses blah blah blah Im led to believe its the waterpump housing where the leak originates.
Does this sound like a possibility?
Allan

FUEL GUAGE FINALLY FIXED - NO MORE DEMONS

Some time ago I put a post on the "other" site regarding a problematic fuel guage, but I will continue it here, as I suspect that this will be my new home.

After 4 attempts by MB to rectify the problem, which included 2 system resets, new sender and some other attempted fixes, the problem was finally found to be in the instrument cluster.

2 weeks have gone by now, 2 fuel fills, and it appears to be opperating correctly.

I appears that advice from the other site, which said that the problem is quite likley in the instrument cluster turned out to be correct.

Cheers,
George.
:)

ML270 2002 Autobox issues

Firstly a bit of history regarding me purchasing this car. I bought it knowing it had issues. When I got it it had no drive whatsoever from the box, I could pit it in D or R and nothing would happen, it would just slip. Fluid level was correct etc. so, I managed to get a replacement box from a breaker for £100 and I put that in. Box was then stuck in limp mode (only reverse and one forward gear) Thinking it was the conductor plate a swapped the one in the box from the breaker for the conductor plate in my old box. No difference, then I learned about the having to get codes cleared. So a great chap on another forum offered to clear them with his carsoft, but it didnt work. So I swapped the plates back over again, same chap kindly loaned me the carsoft and I have now managed to clear the codes and the car changes gear again YAY! for a short while ( around 2 - 4 miles) and then it seems to start to slip again, slowly getting worse until no drive. At which point, turn engine off, wait a few seconds then restart - hey presto drive is back, for a short distance.
The EPC light comes on too most of the time, but I now think the EPC is a separate issue. My No.5 injector looks wet and I have noticed a diesel smell so I'm thinking that could be the cause of the EPC?

I'm slowly losing heart with it, what could now be causing the new issues with the new box? before I put the new box in, I had to change the bell housing as the garage that strippd the donor car dragged the box accross the floor and damaged the fitting for the banjo bolt for the cooler line. i took that opportunity to check the clutch plates and they seemed perfect and the fluid was nice and clear with no burnt smell. (The old box smelled badly of burnt fluid)

I absolutely love the truck, It does everything I want it to do on paper - with the added bonus of it looking quite nice too!

Someone please help :banghead:

ML270 transfer case problem

Hello.
I have an issue with my ML, it has 440.000 km (300.000 miles) on it. It´s like the centerdiff is locked and makes the car resist and a thump hears when taking narrow turns at low speeds and also when I am driving off and turning at the same time. Also the 4ETS,ABS,ESP lights are on and off and the yellow triangle sometimes comes on when I am turning. Other than that it is in good shape and makes no grinding noise or bearing whine.
Any suggestions what is the problem?

2004 ML 350 (W163) Drivers Door Not C/Locking

Hi, the drivers door on my '04 W163 ML350 has suddenly stopped working from the remote, also wont lock from the console button and doesn't lock when moving off. I can lock and unlock drivers door with the key and central lock the other three doors and tailgate using the remote.

I see there's a great deal of info on lock faults but most refer to the 'bounce' or 'machine gun' fault that can be repaired with a small spring. Mine is not showing this problem, the lock just does nothing.

I will take it to a local (and well recommended) Mercedes independent if necessary, however I thought it worth a quick post to see if there's anything simple I can try/examine/test before handing the car and my credit card over....

Thanks, Dave
