Vehicle inspection

A general bleat for assistance! I have been a merc nut for decades and an occasional member on this and many other mb forums. Due to my father passing early this year, in a few months time i will have an influx of cash and should then be looking to purchase an older classic mb. Its most likely to be a pagoda sl, but if funds are tight maybe a w111 coupe or w108 saloon. Since i live in england i was wondering if there was a national company in the us that i could pay to inspect/assess a potential purchase on my behalf, which would have to be cheaper than flying over and also allow me to react quicker to a potential vehicle arriving on the market? any pointers would be gratefully received, plus any experiences and ideas of cost!
Many thanks

Speedometer compatability

Does anyone know which classic (pre-electronic) speedometers work in various models? I have a W460 with a clicking speedometer gear (not the odometer, the one that displays how fast I am going). The W123 looks similar, and maybe others. It's a 4 inch, where mine displays in miles on the odometer and miles-large, KM-small on the speed.

W460's are hard to find, W123 and others a lot easier.

Help needed in identifying a Mechanical Fuel Injection Pump?

Forgive my posting for the first time with a question, but I'm in need of Classic Mercedes help!

I'm trying to identify a mechanical fuel injection pump. It's the front section of this Bosch unit I'm interested in, and
I'm asking here as I'm told as well as being used in the Porsche application as pictured here, it's main use was on a Mercedes.
I think it would have had a different rear section on the Mercedes and it would have been in use around the early 1970's era.

I'm desperately trying to track one down, so any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just any
idea's on other places, people or experts you think I should try.
Thank you very much for your help, Mike Moore
Surrey,
UK.

124 OM603 engine electrical issues

My 87 124 manual OM603 failed to start last week. No real urgency to fix just thought somebody may know a potential culprit:

So I went and replaced 2 glow plugs I knew to be faulty. Was swinging fast, but still wouldnt start. Pulled it with a pickup and it started quickly. Went over all connections and after tightening some wires/ and connections it started fine. Next day IT started up fine but then the heavy fuse on the glow plug relay shorted out. Bridged that with 2 strands of speaker wire ripped from the trunk speaker just to start up and get home.

My thinking was that I have some faulty component or wiring... Electronic Idle control box (behind battery) removed few weeks prior due to heating up even when vehicle turned off... Glow plug light in dash has never worked so I reckon possibly wiring.. Come to think of it, engine hasnt switched off with key for some time. mmm, also, electric windows sometimes still operate when vehicle off after driving on gravel.

Any ideas would be welcome???? Will likely break up the vehicle soon as I have space... Maybe build up one good 124 with the identical vehicle I have with a blown head gasket. Still IMO an amazing engine I would love to fit in my W460 or a G.

Thanks...

Leonard
