Intro/U427 .. CDL

Howdy,

guess a few folks here know me from the Gwagen forum, but anyways

I am an import from Germany, since 2001. Main profession electronics, but wich decent mechanical skills. Tinkering w cars for abut 50 yrs. My first car was a 190dc :-) and I actullay have such a beast waiting in my backyard for TLC.

Living in Lyons, CO. Just hitting retirement age, I finally feel the need for a mog. Especially after I got my G pretty good stuck in the last storm.

So, I am about to import a 25+ years, probably 427 U 1400 from Germany.

and here is the first question .. for a mog with a GVWR of 7.5 t ( 16,500.00 lbs ) do I need a CDL? What about when towing a trailer w 7000 lbs ?

Thanks
Oskar

So the turn signals and the shift gate lighting keep going out intermittently together. I can't find where else they cross other than #11 breaker and that is not popped. I am trying to chase it down but am not having any luck with resolving it. Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Found a Source for Military Mogs

I recently ran across a website for a UK based supplier of ex military vehicles and other heavy machinery. They say they have 75 Mercedes Unimog U1300L in stock available for £12,500 a piece. That should be just under $20K USD.

I have absolutely no idea about how easy (or hard) it would be to purchase from these guys and import to the US. It could very well be far more of a headache than it's worth. But, it looked interesting, so I thought I'd share:

http://www.ljacksonandco.com/index.php/trucks/show-all-trucks/article/11533-mercedes-unimog-u1300l-4x4-drop-side-cargo-truck

Southeast Mog Fest will be held at Windrock Park, Tennessee, 29 May through 1 Jun 2014

Just a heads-up that the Southeast Mog Fest will be held at Windrock Park, Tennessee, 29 May through 1 Jun 2014

SEMF Website ----> southeastmogfest.org <----

There will be a variety of Unimogs present. Big and little, Military and Civilian. There will be easy and tough trail rides, and at least one trip to an abandoned USAF Radar Base on the top of a mountain which once provided security during the Cold War for the Manhattan Project's plants in Oak Ridge, TN. If you're wanting something tougher and different from the typical off-roader Rally, you will be happy!

This is a huge off-road park in the Tennessee Mountains and it's loaded with miles and miles of trails with beautiful scenery, and some interesting history. It features a nice campground with primitive camping, a very nice bathhouse, RV spots and Cabins for rent.

Any questions, please Email or PM.

Garret

brake pedal location

i want to purchase either a unimog 404 or 406.i noticed i could not fit my foot between the brake pedal and the engine cover.is this normal? i thaught unimogs were farm implements. should i assume all farmers and military ware tennis shoes and not boots.i figure i have two choices. use a hammer and smash in the engine cover or heat up the brake pedal arm and bend it.as far as i know the brake pedal arm is one of the strongest parts on a vehicle, heating and bending does not sound safe. any suggestions?

I was channel surfing yesterday and noticed a 1959-1960 S 404 in a movie "Bone Eater." It had a split windshield and the turn signals had been modified on the fron to large oones. It also had a huge roll bar around the cab. I just saw about 5 minutes of it and wish they had an interior shot. Anyone seen this one? :uhoh:

weeping seals on wheels -404 -yes I tried searching

Hi Folks, I am looking at purchasing a 404 and have given it the once over and everything seems to be there considering the age of the vehicle. It is 1963 vintage and is ex Swiss mil. The speedo says a little over 8000km and whilst I am not easily led to believe in odometers this truck is in very good condition. The question I have is regarding some seepage at the wheels on the inside of the reduction/portal housing. This is on all 4 corners! The vehicle has been standing for some time and there is some weeping there. Any ideas as to how much of an issue this is would be great. Many thanks. Pete
