Trans trouble

Just bought an '02 CLK. Start the car up...drive a couple blocks...and then take off on a highway revving up to 60 MPH. 1-2 shift fine, 2-3 shift fine, then at the 3-4 shift the transmission "pops" into neutral. The car wont pull anymore. Stop the car, put it into park, and it moves. Next time the 3-4 shift is delayed, not positive, and hard once it happens.

????got an answer????

RE: Trans trouble

I'd get someone to read the codes to see if any are stored.

RE: Trans trouble

Final diagnosis.......

Removed trans and tore apart....ALL lip seals showed damage, 3-4 clutch pack lip seals were nearly eaten away. Antifreeze in transmission. Trans cooler leaking. Rebuild trans and replace radiatior

RE: Trans trouble

nope...not at all. The car was warmed up before I started the test drive. The problem would only show during lower trans operating temps. The shop that did the trans rebuild said the lip seals in the chuth packs were nearly gone. THe trans cooler in the Radiator was leaking into the antifreeze into the trans. Cost me a rebuild and a new rad. I got the seals and old rad and am considering action.
