ML Traded

The 2007 ML 320 CDI has been traded. I'll keep the G500 for a while until I'm 100% sure of the new ride, which should be here in 3-4 weeks.

RE: ML Traded

I am curious, were there problems with the ML? We are looking at the CDI, but the wife said she wants to look at the ....gulp...Toureag2 TDI.

No problems whatsoever. I should NOT have gotten rid of it. The replacement Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia was/is a very big mistake.

PLEASE, don't tell me you got the Black/ORANGE combo...unless you are a Clemson fan, I guess that is an acceptable reason.

Perhaps not, but it gives me a full sized spare tire for off road security; and it is engineered very well!

If MB offered something like this on the ML, they wouldn't have to fool with the run flat tires on their BlueTech's.

Good Point. I'm not a big fan of temporary tires or run flats. Too old school.

Fwiw, I've seen a picture of an external spare being sold for the ML in Europe. Not sure if it's an MB option or not; but it wouldn't surprise me if the lack thereof here in the US is just one more bone-headed MBUSA Marketng decision. (After all, the guy who is the VP for Marketing in the US cannot even spell Gelaendewagen or Gwagen.)

That fancy hood ornament must really effect fuel economy figures. I have never seen a hood ornament that close to the windscreen before.

That "ornament" can also meow, instead of the klaxon. Lol

In SA (as with Europe) there was an option for a full size spare and rear carrier for the 163,164 and the GL. Was a USD3500 (164 and GL) option.

SA doesn't get an option for this now on the 166 ML.

Re: ML Traded

Dutch, My new 2013 ML has a full size spare in the rear compartment.
My 2008 diesel was a big dissapointment.
When I say dissapointment, I mean milage.
There just wasn't any!
I could squeeze 16 mpg in the city and 24mpg on trips and I mean squeeze.
Fuel was getting higher and higher too.
I let someone else own it.
I don't know why MBenz can't get their milage up.
That seems to be the selling point of many of the competors vehicles.
IF this 2013 ML does not meet my expectations, I'm going to get out of Mbenz's after 37 years.

My Audi Q7 Diesel gets 26-27 mpg highway and 21-22 city; and it's a larger vehicle than the ML.

Re: ML Traded

I'm looking for a diesel SUV and have bounced between Audi, MB, Porsche, VW and Jeep numerous times. I should just quit reading forum comments! Presently the ML 350 Bluetec has my attention. Does the ML 350 diesel come with a block heater? Both the MB and the Audi have (so I read) a reliability black eye. Any comments Dutch?

My Audi has been far more reliable than the ML was. By 50k miles, the ML had been back to the dealer for service numerable times. The Audi has been back twice - once to replace the rear hatch latch and once to replace a gasket between the intake manifold and the turbo. Just my experience. Ymmv.

Re: ML Traded

Thanks Dutch. On measuring, the ML may be too small in the cargo area for our use. Which doesn't leave me many choices...I'll have to get my tape on the Audi.

The Q7 is a LOT bigger back there, especially with the 3rd row folded down.

Re: ML Traded

I wouldn't order the extra seats, but either way it's the height inside on the ML that is the issue. Apparently it is 36" with the back seats down which surprised me. That isn't close to what I need. The Audi looks like a lower vehicle in comparison.
