Star Trails 2011

My "The Star" Mercedes Club Magazine arrived yesterday with the announcement about the Star Trails 2011 event in Ouray, CO, 17-21 August 2011. Are any forum members involved in this event? Is this event just fluff or a worthwhile event?

RE: Star Trails 2011

I hope to attend this as well. I have made it a goal to have my G going by then and for this to be her "maiden" voyage.

Maybe this could be a nice event, camping out in Ouray, fluff it up over some passes and make it worthwhile to see some good friends.

I will try to be part of that adventure.

RE: Star Trails 2011

Hmmm...
18hrs, 1050 miles.
That's quite a journey in my rolling fridge. Would love to see it though. Beautiful country.
Karl, maybe you could tow me and we can banter all the way there taking turns at the wheel?

Just a few weeks to the Mercedes-Benz Star Trails in Ouray, Colorado.

I have signed up and like to see some more friends with their G-wagen at that event - Ouray, the Switzerland of America

RE: Star Trails 2011

I'm planing of leaving the Westcoast early Saturday, August 13, 2011 for the beautiful San Juan mountains of Colorado.

Spending some quality time with friends on the trails around Ouray and visiting family before joining the Mercedes-Benz Club for the Star Trails on 8/17.

Looking forward to meet some good friends and others I have not met yet.

The Star Trails should be fun, even I'm bit wary of those clubs which have members like me

Contact me at karl@g-wagenaccessories.com if you like to join this adventure....

See you up there,

Karl

I will be there the 11th-15th. I hope to see some of the early arrivals there. Unfortunately I will miss the official event.

RE: Star Trails 2011

The pre- Star Trails event with my friends from NM was just a blast.

Great campfire hangouts after some beautiful mountain pass runs. The drizzly morning ascend to the top of Black Bear was followed by a very comfortable warm and sunny afternoon cruise into Telluride.
After some good food at the Brown Dog ( not River's bowl) we had a leisurely drive back over the Imogen Pass (13000+) back to our camp.

I did't do the waterfall exercise this time, remembering the bumper braking drop-in......

Still hanging low in Colorado

Mercedes-Benz Club of America Star Trails in Ouray, Colorado

I was quite impressed with Tom, a Mercedes-Benz Club official - Trail Master, and his W164 ML500 did the tough Black Bear Pass trail with this vehicle when burqueDOKA and I drove it on the weekend before the Star Trails.

During our drive later that week to the Engineers Pass via the Alpine Loop this ML encountered some problems with the rear air suspension and did not join us on the second Black Bear trail run last Saturday.

Overall this Star Trails event was a great success, very professional planned and presented by the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (Pikes Peak Section).

It did introduce many Mercedes owners (mostly ML's) to the offroad environment, laced with hands-on instructions.

Please join us as a member,

http://www.mbca.org/join-today

and I'm looking forward meeting you all at the next Star Trails

Karl

RE: Star Trails 2011

Ellen and I missed the event because of the accident our pregnant daughter was in. She was in the jeep (it has the orange sign on the door). She is slowly recovering. Thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts from those of you who knew of the accident. We are still in Nashville helping care for her. Hopefully we will make a trail ride with ya'll sometime.
