Rotex Brake Pads

I installed a set (front and rear) of the Rotex Premium Gold brake pads on my G500 yesterday at 52,000 miles. These are supposed to be a high performance (Kevlar, metallic, graphite) brake pad which improves the braking performance. The factory original pads had about half of their thickness remaining, so I obviously don't brake a lot.

Some observations.

1.) The front axle has wear sensors on the inboard and outboard pads on both sides for a total of 4 sensors. The rear axle has only one wear sensor in the inboard pad on the right side.

2.) The Rotex pads for the rear brakes will not fit into the sliding calipers without first filing down the edge of the tab on both sides of the pads. This is not unique to my vehicle and/or the box of pads I received from from the supplier. Garret had to do the same thing.

3.) They are nice and smooth and quiet. I haven't yet noticed any major improvement in performance; but I haven't had to stand on them yet either.

RE: Rotex Brake Pads

I replaced both front and rear pads and front roter on my G. Both pads are almost gone at 54,000km. I was lazy to search for high performance parts and just ordered MB parts. Next time, I'll serach for Rotex.

I'm sure a guy as experienced as you doesn't need to be told, but just for the sake of everybody else :p make sure the pads are properly bedded in before you step on them brakes!

It has been done, although - depending on who you read - it's either been done well or not.

Re: Rotex Brake Pads

Keep us updated. I would like to know if these have any better stopping power.

I had huge improvements when I switched my sedans to Pagid Pads...

RE: Rotex Brake Pads

I've had my Rotex pads on for a couple months now, maybe 2k miles worth at the most, and so far so good. The braking improvement was tremendous, but then I didn't really have brakes before due to previous owner's neglect, so that's not a fair comparison. After about a month, I did have a little bit of squeal, aparently from the rear brakes, but it went right away, and it wasn't enough to even worry about as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise, so far so good. Also, I did replace all rotors when I did the pads...it's a long story, and it's on the old G forum (RIP).

FWIW, I tried to find PBR Axxis or Pagid pads. Interestingly, PBR automotive has one of thier US plants just a few kilometers from my house. And they make brake components there. I've been thinking about droping by for a talk with the product like reps. Oh, and they do make pads for my Unimog! Figure that.

RE: Rotex Brake Pads

Just adding an update, after 205,000 miles, my front Rotex brake pads have finally worn out. The rears wore out after about 90,000 miles. Strange, but true. If it weren't my truck, I'd never believe this.

I just went to purchase some more, and it looks like Rotex no longer makes pads for the G-wagen. Bummer.

Now I'm looking for a replacement. Suggestions?

Sadly, Rotex no longer seems to be in business. A real shame. I have looked and looked to no avail.

I have them on my G500 (at your original recommendation) and my Audi Q7. Definitely extremely SUPERIOR brake pads. I would have liked to put them on my Sprinter. Unfortunately, not possible.

RE: Rotex Brake Pads

Porterfield R4-S is another very good hi-performance, low-dust brake pad for the Gwagen.
