Re: GL review in detnews

Out of all the press reviews that I've read, I would say that this is the first negative press the GL has received.

It's refreshing to know that someone in the automotive world doesn't like the GL and isn't afraid to let their opinions known.

Great article, thanks for the link Wolfgang!

I wouldn't say it's negative, Brent. It's just natural the Detroit home newspaper gives some preference to domestic SUVs. One reason why I read it, for the "view from Detroit".

"The GL450 is like a spa-on-wheels compared to its Spartan predecessor. But it has a ways to go before it becomes a truly groundbreaking entry in this crowded segment." from www.detnews.com

Re: GL review in detnews

IMHO, while it wasn't as negative as it could have been, it was more critical than praiseworthy. "The GL doesn't have this, the S-class does. The GL doesn't have this, the S-class does. The GL doesn't have this, the Escalade does."

So what. Remember when they reviewed the G as a "sh*thouse on wheels"?

Frankly, i thought that it was a fair review...definitely more positive than any review of the G-wagen in recent past by non-off-roading journalists.

One thing I found impressive was accorrding to Motorweek's testing the GL was quicker than the much pricier Land Rover Sport. 0-60 was the same but the GL smoked the LR in the 1/4 mile run. The GL also stopped over 20 feet shorter than the LR.

RE: GL review in detnews

I don't think the review is negative at all, just factual in its listing of the sometimes curious content decision MB makes. If this is the top-of-the-line MB truck, then why arent some of the features in its top-of-the-line sedan at least available? Certainly if you're going to pony up for a loaded GL, a few more bucks won't likely matter.
