Re: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

On my porsche buckets the rubber ring went behind the actual headlight bezel/ring. I'm not sure if I could put the ruber on after the ring but I will look - thanks

Hi Sean,
What lights are you going to use? I've been thinking about this for a while but want to make sure it will pass WOF and also had trouble finding the headlight mounts until this recent post.
Regards

Hi Eric

Sorry for the slow reply. I'm going with the TruckLite LED. They are available through Repco in New Zealand and are correct for driving on the left side of the road. They also sell an adaptor that might work. A friend of mine works at a Repco store up your way, so when I get it done I'll show you the results.
Fire me a PM with your details. Be good to see my old G Wagen again :-)

I use JW speaker products but my one issue is that their designs are very tacky. Yes they can build a great set of headlights but please get some designers to make it look a little cooler, that won't hurt anybody! The current line up looks so ugly, it's pathetic. Can't they even learn from OEM? It's so dissapointing that there isnt much choice with 7inch headlights category. The rest are crappy Chinese knock offs!

What difference does it make how they look, as long as they perform properly?

RE: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

It's slightly off topic of JW Speaker, however, I have installed HID headlights and newer style tail lamps from Depo and I'm really happy with both.
I'm not a real fan of aftermarket products, but not only they work fine, especially the headlights, without any issue, but both were just plug and play.

I use the Pilot head light LED

I just bought a set of JW Speaker head lights for Guido. They are labeled DOT and the ECE versions look to be unobtainable

Re: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

Just to update: my non-JWspeaker headlights were giving too many warnings on the dash...they came out. In case anyone goes down the road I did, it might be in your favor to find lights that work with CANBUS as I did not do this. It would be even better if they have parking lights built in - I had to leave mine plugged in under under the bezel.

I have to confess, after comparing prices and reviews, I decided to purchase and install the Hella E-Code H4 headlights. $80 for the pair with bulbs. They work great!

Anytime I want additional coverage, I turn on my PIAA Fag Lamps. People get the hell out of my way when I turn them on.

Re: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

G'day all, I recently busted a factory headlight and am looking to fit a pair of JW Speaker Dual Burns.

Has anyone used the JW Speaker mounting ring kits to fit to their G/W.

I used Porsche mounting rings on both of my 93 500GE. However, the picture you posted looks like these mounting brackets could work. The lights have been great. Good luck.

RE: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

I ended up fitting the JW Speaker lights and mounts.

The mounts are very good and a straight fit, I just had to drill 3 small holes for the mounting screw, I used the screws from the old mounts but the hole spacing was different to the new mounts. The also come with decent adjusters where you use an Allen key.

I would happily recommend them and as for the lights they are literally night and day compared to the old ones, the difference well worth the effort, not cheap but you do get a lot for your money.

Follow the link to a photo of the light and mount without the light cover fitted.

I used the Porsche mounting rings as well. No drilling required.

At this point if time I haven’t yet.

You could get a set of the Jeep ones with the DRLs, they were a bit bling for me.

RE: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

I just installed my JW Speaker 8700 EVO 2 lights. They are great, but I've noticed that when I flash the lights to high-beam via the momentary lever, the passenger side headlight turns on briefly then off, after which I get an error that the high beam is out (but it still works if I flash again). The high beam works perfectly if I push the lever forward to an "always high" position without error - only momentary trips something.

Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid installing more load resistors. I haven't yet swapped the lights to determine whether its specific to the particular light or not (i.e., a defective light assembly - I will if needed, but I hoped there was a simple answer).

Thanks!

RE: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

When you pull back on the lever both beams are turned on briefly.  That may cause the headlight itself to not turn on the high beam. That, in turn, may upset the lighting computer.

When you push forward on the lever, it first turns off the low beam and then turns on the high beam.  So, not an issue.

RE: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

Thanks, Alan.

I swapped the drivers and passenger side headlights this evening and confirmed that the issue is with the car and not the Speaker lights. I get what you are saying re: the quick flash, but if I pull the lever toward me "very briefly" and release, both lights do a normal flash with no error. If I pull for more than 0.75 to 1 second or so, the passenger side turns on and then off and gives an error (even if I pull and hold it).

Do you think I should bother with a load resistor (I suspect that would solve the issue)? Or leave it as-is? My annoyance is that I live in a condo with a parking garage where I typically flash when exiting (two way traffic lane) and the error message might get annoying with time... Perhaps I'll just learn to only do very quick flashes...

Btw - Still enjoying the brush guard you sold to me 10 years ago or so. I removed it just last week to sand/grind/repaint the black uprights. Will reinstall it shortly. Chicago winters are tough on metal (ask my rocker trim/panels)...

RE: JW Speaker 8700 LED Headlamps / HeadLights in Action

For those of you who are interested, I bought both the JW Speaker brand mounting bracket and the Amazon version by Xprite 7" Inch Led Headlight Bracket (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EIRQ2L6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

Personally, the Amazon/Xprite one seems to be of higher quality and a fraction of the MSRP of the JW Speaker counterpart. Each requires the same drilling modification for the G, but the Amazon one seems better-made and is easier to adjust. Just thought I'd share.
