Great Sales Numbers for GL Class:

Mercedes-Benz USA sales rose 21.4 percent to 21,621. The division's numbers were boosted by the sale of 2,526 Mercedes GL-Class sport utility vehicles, which were introduced in April.

NEW YORK (AP) -- DaimlerChrysler AG, the third-largest U.S. automaker, said Thursday its U.S. auto sales fell in May, as a drop in Chrysler Group sales offset an increase in sales at its Mercedes division.

The German-American automaker sold 212,882 vehicles in May, down 8.4 percent from 232,386 vehicles during the same month in 2005.

Adjusted for one more sales day in May of this year compared to last, sales fell 12.06 percent.

Chrysler Group -- which consists of its flagship, Jeep and Dodge brands -- saw its sales fall 12.2 percent to 191,261.

At the same time, Mercedes-Benz USA sales rose 21.4 percent to 21,621. The division's numbers were boosted by the sale of 2,526 Mercedes GL-Class sport utility vehicles, which were introduced in April.

Sales of Mercedes S-Class vehicles rose 84.5 percent to 2,526, while sales of the CLK-Class fell 35.1 percent to 1,127, and sales of the M-Class fell 31.4 percent to 2,278.

For the year-to-date period, DaimlerChrysler sold 1,037,733 vehicles, down slightly from 1,048,245 in the first five months of 2005.

RE: GL Sales

Could the GL be directly competing with the ML? It appears so. A similar drop in ML sales compared to the same increase in GL sales.
