Photo DIY- M112 Breather Cover Re-Sealing

This is a "Supplement" to the Valve Cover Gasket Repair job.

Apparently, it is the BREATHER Covers which are the Usual offenders for a Cover-Area leak. So, a good idea to re-seal during a Valve Cover Gasket change.

Now, Since part of the Breather Cover is involved in the Valve Cover 9 Nm Torquing Process??? I think the Re-Sealing is best done with the Valve Cover ALREADY INSTALLED!!! With Only 10 Minutes of Usable Work-Time before it sets-up? I think this is NOT enough time to do the ENTIRE Valve Cover Install.

You will see, the 4 Nm Aluminum screws only cause a "Partial" Expression/Oozing-Out of the Sealant.. the 9 Nm torque really squishes out the sealant, soooo, I think the Valve cover should already be in place, ready for Final Torquing.

***IMPORTANT NOTE***!!!! You Really should allow a 24 Hour "Cure" time before Starting the Engine, after Re-Sealing!!!!!!

Be sure to order NEW Aluminum Breather Cover Screws, as they get quite deformed after one use.

Could you please be kind to tell me what MB seal part number you reseal around "Breather Cover Re-Sealing" It part number
003 989 98 20 10. Just want to make sure before I do order and do mine.

Hey!

Yes, you are correct on the Sealant part#.

You can also source the material under "Loctite 5970".

If I may extend one word of Caution!!!!

LOOK CAREFULLY AT EXPIRAITON DATE!!!!!

The Cartridge I purchased at my local dealer was AT expiration date when I purchased... but did the job a few months later.

HAD TOO RE-DO the whole thing after very short time due to the Sealant being bad.... (It never Cured!! Despite 24 Cure time, prior to starting enging).
