2015 SE G-Treffen Trip Report

A great time. 12 participants and 7 G's visited the MBUSI assembly plant in Vance, AL and got a chance to ride the off-road test track in some ML's and a GL. Two of the ML's blew tires on the obstacles, one of them blew both fronts. It is a heckuva ride.

The next day we assembled to run the Talladega Skyway Motorway, which is an off-road mostly ridge-line track through the Talladega National Forest.

A special thanks to Heinz for twisting some arms to arrange the off-road test track ride; and thanks to all who participated!

Re: 2015 SE G-Treffen Trip Report

Our family had a wonderful time and so enjoyed meeting everyone. Thanks to all for your friendly reception and kindness. We are looking forward to riding with you again. My wife found the Treffen in Oregon this summer but our summer is already pretty full. We will keep an eye out for the next event.

RE: 2015 SE G-Treffen Trip Report

What caused the two MLs to blow tires on that track?

And what is that picture of the vehicle on the island?

Street tires on an off-road obstacle course.

1. The silver ML had new tires installed the previous day, they run standard street tires with street pressure. At the top of the rock hill climb the front left broke its bead, the front right was found flat when we stopped due to the sound of forged aluminum banging on rock.

2. The white ML forded out to the island and was found with a slashed front flat tire too.

The friendly test track guys said it is pretty rare to have blowouts on the track, bad batch of tires?

Not too confidence-inspiring when the factory setup can't make it around the factory track. I'd certainly hope it's a bad batch... Looks like a fun treffen!

Re: 2015 SE G-Treffen Trip Report

To be fair, all the factory vehicles did successfully complete both the obstacle course and the woods course at least once while we were there. I was actually pretty impressed with the ML and GL -- they just need a bit beefier tire.

Wow, what a great journey, thanks to all for making a newbie feel welcome! I was impressed with the trucks, but more so with the people. Glad all made it home safe.

RE: 2015 SE G-Treffen Trip Report

Hello my friends,

I finally made it back home, after almost 6000 Miles on the road.

Yes, it definitely was an epic trip, and I like to thank everybody who participated, to make it such a great adventure.

A special "Thank you" to Heinz and Mark, having us (Mike & me) welcomed in their home, we really enjoyed resting there.

It was such a pleasure meeting new, and seeing old friends again.

Now after two weeks playing around with the G-wagen throughout the US, life's realities set in quickly.....

Karl

Greenville,MS...double pane, bullet proof glass with a little hole to pass your money through....pretty sure it was a rough part of town. Karl wanted Starbucks when we were approaching the Mississippi River....the closest one was 120 miles south in Jackson.  At that point Karl realized we weren't in Southern California anymore.
