| Photo DIY- W460 Front Rotor and Pad R&R
Looks like the old Klunkerwagen's Front Rotors are at the Minimal Wear Limit of 13mm.
I opted to go with Zimmerman Rotors, and FTE Pads (a la Eurotruck).
Of note: During Removal, I noticed a small 'Crack' in the Right Inner Pad. Upon Removal, the Pad material (still quite Thick!) literally CRUMBLED!!
What was Disappointing about it?? Those pads were Mercedes Dealership Sourced Pads, and only a few years old!
As ALWAYS, please be VERY Careful while working under a lifted/jacked truck.
Also, since my Mantra is: "NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT ON A VEHICLE, THAN THE *BRAKING* SYSTEM!!", If you don't feel comfortable doing Brake Work?? Then DON'T ATTEMPT IT!!
This post is for a Non-ABS, W460, so NO Wear Indicators, nor ABS system.
*PLEASE* PUMP the the Brakes MULTIPLE TIMES, PRIOR to venturing out onto the Roadways, just to be 100% Sure the Braking system is FULLY Functional!!!

CAUTION! Be sure you Consult WIS for the W463-Specific procedures. I believe the Caliper Bolts have a different Torque Value. |

I have WIS and know my parts needed for the W463..wish I had a nearby bud with the same truck.. interest, knowledge and specialized tools, as yours.

Again a very helpfull DIY with an impressive array of special tooling! Keep up the good work.
I remember I turned down a 19mm socket (to reduce height) to acces the lower caliper bolt when using a torque wrench.
Didn't you have clearance issues with the standard socket?

No... It's a little "tight" fit, but was able to use a Standard Socket/Extension on the Lower-Right Bolt.
What was 'helpful'?? Use a Wobble-Tip Extension, once the Initial Loosening was accomplished.
Option-B? Use a Dremel to make a tiny Notch in the "Metal-Ring" retainer for the Ball Housing Seal. This allows a Straight-Shot for a Regular Extension. |

It can be a good idea to threat the bare metal surfaces of the new rotor with some heat resistant paint for rust protection. Inside / outside of the rotor hub. Otherwise the brand new rotor will look like $€#!? after a couple of months.
Otherwise. Good writeup. Even though there are a lot of tricks that can be used without have super expensive tools to remove rusted rotors, push back the pistons, grinding the hub and rim surfaces clean etc. |

Yes... I'm sure there are an Infinite number of alternative methods... I am merely presenting the 'Approved/Recommended' Mercedes procedures, including the Optimal Paste TA as your bare-surface-anti-corrosion-heat-resistant material. (Optimal is the same Grey Goop which is factory-applied onto the Bosch O2 Sensors as a High-Heat-Anti-Seize compound.) |
