Warranty info on Bio-Fuels

I want to switch over to bio fuel in my CDI. I don't know what fuels will not void my warranty and my dealer is useless. What are the steps I need to take to switch over and what grade should/could I use in the car? I heard I need to do some work on the filters for the first few tanks? Any information would help. Thanks

Re: Warranty info on Bio-Fuels

I live in Miami FL but am attending school at UF in Gainesville, FL. So i can switch over to these fuels without any warranty issues and with no fear of causing any damage?

RE: Warranty info on Bio-Fuels

Biodiesel should not be a problem for your CDI. It’s mostly the older cars that can have a leaking problem with the rubber hoses and gaskets. You’ll need to monitor the fuel filters as the bioD can dislodge tank and fuel line deposits and clog them.

Only DCAG can comment on what the warranty implications may be. If your dealer is clueless (not a surprise) then contact MBUSA directly and they should be able to tell you.

Here’s a useful link:

RE: Warranty info on Bio-Fuels

I thought that if you have a brand new diesel, and when you put another fuel in the tank besides diesel, the warranty voids!?!?!

Re: Warranty info on Bio-Fuels

OK, I talked to a rep. at 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES and I was told that 15% ethanol is the max amount you can put in the tank without voiding the warranty. The rep also told me that 5% BioDiesel is allowed without voiding the warranty. I assume they don't want us to mix the two and that these are separate maximum amounts. The rep said that these were vaild for models 99 E300 TurboDiesel ( I dont know when they began making the E with this engine but the last year was 99) and for the newer model that came out in 2004 ( I think it came out in 04?) that is the same one used in the 2006 I asked about. I think that the amounts will change when the next model comes out ( bluetec ).

So what blend of Biodiesel contains 5% BioDiesel?

I also forgot to mention that I seriously started considering BioDiesel in the CDI after I saw Willie Nelson filling his up with B100. Look here...

Learned how to appreciate MB diesels before I could drive. Parents had a 1986 Turbo Diesel, could here it coming a mile away. Then they upgraded the the 1999 Turbo Diesel... it was only natural for me to get the CDI, and I LOVE IT!! MB 4 LYF!

Be careful about biodiesel the most I would mix in is B20 unless you get a retrofit kit. If you dont know anything about it I suggest you look up about biodiesel it has a very low freezing point of around 30-50 F and it will turn into a thick wax, but they make kits and special fuel lines that prevent this by heating the gas. Another problem is the the higher the amount you might have trouble starting the car.

For the 03-05 C320 mercedes says it will run E85 along with the 2005 C240. The new 2007 C230 can also now run E85. The main thing that has to be done to run E85 is to change the gas tank and fuel lines since the ethanol is very corrosive and will damage lines in high concentrations. In arizona during half of the year our gas is E10 or 10% ethanol which does no harm and you cant tell a drop in performance. Also Mercedes benz about E85 cars it says to check your manual... I suspect that the newer 320 from 03-05 could run E85 without problems
