Fired up the 500GE to go Black Friday shopping (wanted to stand out in the parking lot filled with black and silver Gs at my local mall) and as soon as I turned on the blower fan, I heard a loud, high pitch squeal. Opened the hood and sure enough, bearing noise from the compressor. Should I order a new compressor from the dealer, or get a Denso? I will get a new filter/drier also. I replaced it with a Denso unit, no problem. Don't bother with a stealer compressor if/when you can get a quality aftermarket unit for a small fraction of the cost. DEFINITELY replace the receiver/drier as well. I did same and use the OEM unit by Hansa (same company who makes them for MB, at least for my model). My G320 uses the same compressor that the ordinary W124 M104/3.2 liter engines use, which is a very common unit and readily available on the aftermarket. Your mileage may vary.... Cheers, Gerry

AHAZ usually has better prices, but not always. Definitely go with a Denso if you can get one.

Amazon Prime is amazing. Point and Click. Amazing prices. It looks like on this compressor, it is a W124 Denso Compressor Body mated to a W126 Clutch assembly. The compressor clutch part number is 0001301706. The compressor part number is 0002302511. Unfortunately, Mercedes no longer sells the clutch assembly separate. So I am buying two complete compressor units and will swap clutches (hopefully). Edited by H1LM002G55 11/29/2017 11:12 AM

If you want to sell me the spare compressor, I'll take it off your hands. Edited by gerryvz 11/30/2017 7:03 AM

Clutch looks like it is off of a M117 based SL R107 or similar W126. EDIT: Photo removed to be resized.

Those parts are very similar, and they could be used for other models like in this situation. When I had an aircon leaking, I could get any part from the 2017 and higher models because my Panasonic it's from 2019. It is advantageous when we can fix things this way because if I have bought a new part, I should have paid $100 more at least. Better search for more options like in my case and don't overpay.
