Installing Spring Spacers

For those who have either installed spring spacers, or removed your front springs, did you have to disconnect the hydraulic line to the front diff?

I've lowered the front axle as much as it'll go and disconnected brake lines, but now the hydraulic diff line is being pulled tight, and I still need to drop the axle further.

Any tips? Thanks.

RE: Installing Spring Spacers

Do one side at a time. Use a jack to push the far side UP. Helps more on one side than the other due to the diff lock line being off center, but it does help. It's also handy to put the spring compressor (more of a "holder" this way) before you let the axle end droop.

Sorry if this is obvious stuff you're already doing, but I've changed springs on a few different G and never even disconnected the brake lines, much less the diff lock line. Some spring holding kind of tool is pretty necessary though because the front springs are quite long when at full length. Auto parts stores will usually loan a tool like this if you don't have one.

Good luck!!!

Yes, Dave is correct.

Just do one side at a time.

On the rear axle, you might want to loosen the brake & locker line/hose bracket, to gain a bit more movement.

Re: Installing Spring Spacers

How does the G feel after adding the spacers? Any issues? I am thinking about getting 40mm spacers for my 2003 from fourbyfourclub. I only go off roading two or three times a year...

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but should this be possible to remove the rear springs and without disconnection the shock?

One of my rear springs are broken and I was going to replace both of them the other day but I couldn't get the damn bolt of the sock to drop the axle low enough.

Please go into your My Profile and complete the sections telling us the year and model of your G, as well as where you're located. That information helps us to get to know and to help you better when you ask questions. Thanks.

I doubt there would be enough room with the shock in place.  You can't get either end off?  Someday you'll need to get both of ends off.  Now might be easier than later.

Re: Installing Spring Spacers

If the nut on the shock’s threaded stud has become corroded the shock will tend to spin when you turn the nut. Do a google search on this. There are at least a dozen different ways to skin this cat. The most common is to beat the stud until it fails...though you may not want to buy new shocks right now
