(I'll post photos later since I am having problem with my phone) I'd like to thank everyone here for sharing your invaluable knowledge and offering your kind advice. Having said this, when I looked under the hood for just visual inspection, I've noticed that the boot for steering shaft is torn badly and I saw for the first time that there is a curved metal tube with open end right on top of the steering shaft. I took photos to post them here, but I am having issue with my phone, so will post them later if I need to. I don't think I can replace the boot myself, not having done anything ever with the steering shaft, however, does it need immediate attention? Also, the metal tube near the steering shaft, does it supposed to have the open end? I don't think there is any missing part that connects to the open end of the tube, it looks more like a bracket although there isn't anything that attached to it. Can someone please advice on these? Thank you all again for your help and support.

You need to drive that thing some more. 15k a year constitutes "average" mileage anymore. You're a few thousand miles behind! I was doing almost 30k/year on my 1980 until I started splitting mileage with the '84 a few years ago. Now-a-days my son gets more G-miles than I do as he drives the SWB 230GE regularly to work (40 mi round trip) while the fact that diesel prices are 30% higher than unleaded here mean it's more economical for me to drive the LX570 than the 460 w. 617A. It is a sad day indeed. All the best, -Dave G.
