'86 SWB Cabrio - thinking if replacing the soft top

This is a civilian version.
Has anyone ordered a replacement top from CK-Cabrio?
The online photos look good.

RE: '86 SWB Cabrio - thinking if replacing the soft top

I bought a top for my fixed frame almost 4 years ago from these guys:

https://cabrio.de/en/softtops/car-models-prices/mercedes-benz/g-mode...

Happy with the product. Their communication and response time via email were very good.

Re: '86 SWB Cabrio - thinking if replacing the soft top

I bought a new MB top for my 1984 280GE Cabrio and the existing top could be available.
The only issues with the top are:
1. where it heads down aft of the rollover bar on the drivers side it had begun to tear so I had it gusseted and did the same on the passenger side.
2. there was a small pin hole in the top and it was also patched.

The window plastic is clear, the rear zippers work as do the screw-in latches. The top itself is in very good condition (except for 1. & 2. above) and fits tightly.
I bought the new top from a guy who purchased it from MB but never installed it.
I intended to cut up the original one and have it made into a Bikini top but would sell it for $600 plus shipping (about $75-80) if you are interested.
I can send pictures if you contact me at clark.bowen@gmail.com

Re: '86 SWB Cabrio - thinking if replacing the soft top

I purchased years ago from Cabrio.de. a SONNENLAND top for my fixed frame 460. Fit perfect, Great material, high quality. Later when I bought a folding frame off EBAY.de I had the top modified to attach to the new bar locations.

RE: '86 SWB Cabrio - thinking if replacing the soft top

AIGroup-

I'm not on P3 often but I saw your post this morning... I just went through an exhaustive process sourcing a new soft top for my '84 300GD cabrio so I feel compelled to respond.

http://www.aro2000.com/W460_order_form.htm -Has made soft tops as recently as last year, no longer willing to manufacturer them for a W460

http://fourbyfourclub.com/W460BodyParts/W460SoftTop.htm -Factory top that can be sourced from any of the usual suspects; inferior top in my opinion based on how much you pay; limited functionality

https://cabrio.de/en/softtops/car-models-prices/mercedes-benz/g-mode... -This manufacturer was not willing to quote a top to North America as of June 2019

https://www.ck-cabrio.de/verdecke/cabrioverdecke-von-a-z/mercedes-g-... -I know I considered these guys but can't remember why I did not go with them... maybe lack of response?

https://www.verdeck.de/en/2154/soft-top-sonnenland-mercedes-g-modell... -Did not reach out to these guys as I found another manufacturer with a top that I liked better but just know that they are out there.

http://www.ihre-autopolsterei.de/ -This is who I went with as they made the top for me exactly the way I wanted with a few custom treatments. They're pricing was more than competitive. It was nerve wracking communicating through Google translate on such a large purchase but it went fine. They asked for six weeks to produce the top but had it in the mail to me within two weeks from me ordering it. Took an hour to install the first time and was an exact fit. I've probably got over 3,000 miles on it since July and it is has performed well. I've had to tweak a few things to keep the noise down at highway speeds (70-70 MPH) but nothing major. Does not leak; keeps me dryer than my hard top LOL. I would definitely order from them again.

Soon as I can figure out how to post pictures on this post I will. Feel free to PM here or on clubG. Good luck if you have not sourced one already.

RE: '86 SWB Cabrio - thinking if replacing the soft top

Hello,

Maybe a late reply.
I bought a top 2 years ago from speed&sport in Germany. Nothing bad to say. cabriodach.com
