Door adjustment -- wind noise

I purchased my second G a 2015 G63 as a CPO car from a MB dealer. I noticed there was rust coming in around some of the door hinges so I asked them to fix it. They sent it to a body shop that did the job. Still amazes me these trucks get rust on them in the way they do. My 2008 had quite a bit.

Anyway, my doors seem like they need a bit of adjustment now. They all came off to do the refinishing job. My driver door especially at highway speed now makes a whistling noise that when I stick my finger up in the door vcrack at the top while moving it stops. Is there a FAQ or some article someone knows of some where on how to properly adjust these doors? I've had the truck spend enough time with the dealer and not really interested in leaving it with them any more.

TIA

Is the gasket around the top in place? Does the rear of the door line up with the B pillar? If not, you can move the catch on the pillar to tighten it up.

+ 1 - most likely the door gasket/seal.

As mine are approaching 20 yrs old in the desert heat, they've shrunk a bit, especially the driver's door.

Be aware that replacement W463 front door seals are currently "unobtanium" (part number A46372713309051). Steve Dempsey at Expedition Imports may have a source for a non-OEM substitute.

They took off the doors to refinish or replace the door hinges. Now there is an air leak and wind noise.

You need to take the car back to the dealer and have them adjust the doors properly. It is hard for one person to do this as they are pretty heavy, but the adjustment range is pretty good and they should be able to fix it pretty easily. Your door seals should be fine on a truck this new.

RE: Door adjustment -- wind noise

Ok, back to the dealer I go then. It has just been such a long saga.

When I purchased the truck, 2015 30k, I saw small rust coming in at the hinge and body on all doors. I needed to get off on a trip so I pointed out to them and they said they would take care of it in two months when I was back. On my return it was now out of warranty and that would require special MB authorization. In the mean time I also noticed the beginning of a bubble just under the windshield front seal. Net net they ended up fixing it and upon return they didn’t get the rust on the door side of the doors only on A and B pillar. Back it went. 6 weeks later I have it back. They were nice enough to agree to pay my monthly payment as they hade made this much worse than it should have been with waiting for approval from MB then only getting half the job done. So...not too excited to return, but that seems to be the thing to do as it is a big heavy door.

Re: Door adjustment -- wind noise

Rich, I feel your pain! First, I'm sorry and disappointed to hear about your interaction with MB service. For me that is the face of Mercedes Benz as a company; That's not a compliment. I purchased my 2011 (CPO) 2 years ago at the MB dealer in Santa Monica and my story was your story in Denver. I take it in, explain problems, expect solutions; simple. Nope, they are looking right past me and they always get the billable hours right, lol. There, I feel better. I have the same corrosion with my G among other things, random spots here and there especially on the leading edge of the sunroof. I think I'm going to move around some POR-15 and keep an eye on the trouble spots.

I don't like to do this but I compare the G to my Land Cruisers and One is a lot more frustrating than the other and I hate comparing the two in such a way. A 23 year old Land Cruiser and zero frustration; but I am still loyal to both my G and my Land Cruisers.
