Old key the same as new key? / Chrome G wagon key

Hello all,

I wanted to know how I can get the newer chromed key for my 2002 G500.

I’ve bought two keys from my local Benz dealer and although they give me the newer styled key, they tell me that they don’t have the chrome key for my truck.

Also, are new keys supposed to be exactly the same as the older keys? I ask because I disconnected the battery on my car to change the steering wheel and upon connecting the battery leads, the truck had the ‘ESP’ and ‘BAS’ lights on. I know from experience that these lights turn off with a short drive. I drove the truck for two days with the NEW key and the lights didn’t go away. I inserted the old key and the lights reset within a few blocks...could it be that the newer key will unlock the doors and work with the ignition but are in other ways different from the old keys? thanks in advance.
