He told me that he had never heard of this tool before. He also mentioned there must be another way to remove the seats as a lot of the guys took them out. Thinking about his comment I too have been wondering about removal. First, why would Graz install a tension-er without a way to work with it? I am thinking we might be not using the proper procedure to get the tension-er out. Typical removal is to put the front seat forward, fold the rear seat down and then release the lock and fold them forward. With that done, the tension-er is still in a very tight position. The mechanic's words have been bugging me. Maybe we are missing something. Then there is one last preparation for removal I could have missed but have never tried. Obviously the rear seats are not going forward enough to release the tension-er. What if the backs of the front seats were to be leaned forward all the way? Could the rear seats then have enough forward movement? Would the tension-er then have enough travel to release the pressure? Well, it is too cold in NC, and I am going to leave the solution to a younger member to look into. It might be worth trying, of maybe someone has already tried it. I'm considering setting my G up more for overlanding fun then seating 5 in my G, honestly my dog spend more time in the back then humans.

This way you do not mess with the hydraulic piston or any of the little clips. I have had my seats in and out a number of times in the last few months while working on swapping the double seat for a left side single from a G Pro. The clips for both the damper and the seat rotating pins pop right out with a flat head screw driver. The dampers are on there very tight, which is a good thing. That means when the rear seats are in the 'up' position, they will stay up if you're driving around. When you reinstall the seat, the dampers being fully extended becomes a small issue because you can't compress them enough (easily) with one hand to allow for you to put the pin through with the other hand. What I ended up doing was attaching the damper pin first, then using my weight to line up the front seat hinge pins. The outside one was pretty easy. The inside one is much tougher, especially the second side you put in. I ended up using a ratchet strap hooked to the inside frame of the seat behind the pivot hinge and anchored to a D-ring in the rear cargo area. Using the ratchet strap allows you to pull the seat to compress the damper while aligning the pivot pin. I wrote up a small write up of removing the rear bench seats over on MBWorld here: https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w460-w461-w463/777971-my-g55-journey-2.html#post8047378
