I have the potential to get a good deal on a 2013 with 80K miles on the clock. I have been looking for something in the 2013-2105 range, but not necessarily with this many miles. I know the early MBUSA G platform well and know what to expect from that as do most of you (CV joint boots, king pin bearings, wheel bearings and so on), but the 2013 is the newer interior/electronics package, so I'm concerned about issues here. Fool's errand, or would you consider it for the right price? Thanks!

You did not say if you were buying from the original owner. I you are, ask for the service records. As for the front drive train, the lubricant of the front hubs is an important part of the maintenance. Most owners ignore checking the grease levels at 25k mile intervals. The brake pads reveal the owners attentiveness to good maintenance which can wear the rotors too. There are many thing that G owners tend to let slip by. You should be alert to the things that are hidden. Edited by GwagenLover 3/10/2020 10:56 AM

I went through similar mental gymnastics 3 years ago before buying my 2-previous-owner 2011 G550 with 57K. Aside from engine and transmission, the driveline is identical to an early MBUSA G-wagen, so the 2013 you're thinking about has the same areas of concern to have inspected. My G-wagen came with full service records so I knew that some more common electrical problems (e.g. window regulator, back-up sensors, rear wiper) had already been addressed and that the front axle had had some attention (wheel bearings). Both the M273 5.5L V8 and the 7 G-tronic automatic transmission have been problem-free for me as well as the previous 2 owners. At time of purchase, I made a point of flushing and replenishing EVERY fluid in the truck and I had the transmission serviced long before its scheduled mileage. I installed a fresh CPS, not because of problems but because I wanted a fresh one plus to have the old one as a spare. I also installed a new serpentine belt and new pulleys. My 2011 G550 has been the most solid, dependable vehicle I have ever owned in 47 years of car ownership. If that 2013 G-wagen has service records and it can be had for a good price, I'd say go for it (unless its good price is due to it being pimped-out; if that's the case, the seller should just donate it to you so that you can mercifully undo that sacrilege). I went and checked it out the vehicle seems solid expect there is a rust bubble on the leading edge of the right rear door. Has any one had experience repairing this type of issue. Is it a reason not to but the truck (available for a good price). Thanks, - Scott

Scott, That rust bubble is in an unusual location for a G-wagen, most likely due to a down-to-bare-metal paint chip that's been neglected. If the truck is rust-free overall, including undercarriage, it shouldn't be a cause to reject the truck for consideration. Maybe tell the seller that you'll factor in the cost of having that right rear door refinished when you make your offer. Arie
