Is there a neutral safety switch on 2002 G500????

Car does not want to start , played with shifter between N and D and it started . Later on same thing
Is there a neutral safety switch like earlier cars ?
On the cluster it shows park . When I put in N it starts
Then it won’t shift back to park got to put shifter down first the it will go back up
Thanks guys

This might be a place to start. Not sure if the shifters are same or similar between the preMBUSA and MBUSA versions.

There is a starter interlock inside the transmission.  Part of the contact plate.

It is inline with the temperature sensor, between pin 12 and pin 4, on the transmission connector itself.  Or pin 33 & 34 on the TCU.

Yes the brake light switch that we all have has two contacts.  One is always open, the other always closed.  It turns out that the one that feeds the brake light is the durable one.  The other one has a flex point in it and breaks after X number braking events.
