AC Fan Switch Issue

Hi, hope everyone here is safe and healthy during this crazy times.
My AC turns on time to time although I didn't turn it on, especially when I start the car.
I just need to turn the fan switch on and turn it off, and AC stays off. Everything else works fine with AC.
Do I just need to replace the fan switch or is there something else need to check?
It looks like I need the whole control panel, part#209-830-0485
Please let me know what you all think.
Thank you

Re: AC Fan Switch Issue

Seeing no other responses I'll jump in. There may be a bad switch; I don't know. Don't forget however that the AC will run on it's own down to about 40-50F ambient to dehumidify the cabin air to keep it fresh. That may be what is happening.

Re: AC Fan Switch Issue

Thank you for your comment, since it's intermittent issue I will wait for now and look for a good used unit.

RE: AC Fan Switch Issue

Yes, the HVAC control units do go flaky with age. A common issue is bad/dirty contacts on the switches. BTW, you can use the one from the W203 C-class so you don't have to pay the G-Wagen tax for a 463 series part. See if you can find the digital version - much nicer than the analogue knobs. And the digital version has complete diagnostics built it.

RE: AC Fan Switch Issue

I knew that the part numbers are the same for W203 and W463.
I've seen a few people getting upgraded control units, but I thought they all require some modifications to fit into dash and all switches and controls to work.
Is there one that is plug and play?

RE: AC Fan Switch Issue

See this old thread: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.asp?tid=21711&mi...

I believe that for an '04 it should be plug and play if you go through the "adaptation" process which can be found online. I had one of these units in my '03.

Somewhere I have the analogue unit from my '03 which I might be persuaded to part with (if I can find it).
