P0445 - canister next to the charcoal canister in the purge control system

looking for the part number for what I think is a Europa-specific secondary canister in the emissions system. It's located right near the standard charcoal canister, and is approximately 12" x 3" and held in with a hose clamp w/2 fittings on top.

Anyone had to replace this in the past?

Check out this thread, particularly the last post by Dutch.

The canister you describe I believe is the factory one, the larger one is what Europa added.

P0445 looks like a purge valve fault. Do you have a small evap leak code too?

I had a small evap leak code, but it was fixed either by a new gas cap gasket or some new plumbing lines (guessing the latter).

My mechanic said the canister he was unfamiliar with (That looked like canister "E" in the diagram) only had two in/out hoses, not three, so I'm still kind of stumped...

The part number 1294700859 for the E canister that Dutch listed is what Mercedes used for the W129 500SLs. Google that number and you will find several that pop up.

Here is a nice cheap used one on EBay that you could buy to test your system before buying a more expensive one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/90-02-MERCEDES-R129-SL500-FUEL-VAPOR-CHARCO...
