G320 Exhaust Manifold

My front exhaust manifold (Cyl 1-3) has practically shattered, and is missing a big chunk from the outer shell. Needless to say, I've got to replace it.

The original part number is A1201422001, and is very expensive. It happens to be shared with the M120 V-12 engine used in the 600SEL, 600SEC, SL600 and shared platforms.

While researching the V12 engines, I found the A1201422001 replaced A1201420801 and A1201421801. Can I assume that I can replace mine with one of these older manifold versions used in the V12s? The big assumptions are that all three are interchangeable on the V12, and that I could also interchange any one of these with my G320.

Did you ever find out if the other manifolds with different part numbers are compatible with the A1201422001  ?

Thanks

RE: G320 Exhaust Manifold

I've purchased a brand new one on eBay, although I haven't installed it yet.

I will try out alternate part numbers that sure look the same....and update my findings.

If for some reason you do not utilize your new manifold and are interested in selling, I would be very interested.

RE: G320 Exhaust Manifold

The part did NOT fit. Apparently there is a Right hand drive and Left had drive that got mixed up. I still need either
A 120 142 20 01
A 120 142 08 01

and not (which were made for the Left Hand Drive V-12, and will turn a different direction)
A 120 142 18 01
A 120 142 10 01

RE: G320 Exhaust Manifold

My original manifold started rattling from inside.  As you know the manifold is kind of a two piece unit welded together, an outer shell over an inner.  I purchased another used one from Guido that had a small crack on outer "shell".  I had it welded up and seems to be good so far.

If yours is not rattling from inside and has small crack on outer, I would consider welding up by a competent welder that knows his stuff...or seek an exhaust guy that is not new to manifold work.

I think I'm beyond that point.

Re: G320 Exhaust Manifold

Now that is a crack. Thanks for posting as I now know what the inside is comprised of. Mine rattles on that inside part at a certain rpm and load….dont hear after 40 mph. Annoying as hell when driving slow speeds through neighborhood or scenic highways.
