Diesel Engines! VW or MB?

Fine I guess I post something new!

So which Diesel Engine you think is better between Mercedes-Benz CDi and the Volkswagen TDi! It depends on all variations! On which has better performance, which is cheaper to have so anyone can enjoy! You know what im talking about!

Well I havn't made my decision yet, though later I will post to make my final ratification on which car I believe is better to have...

So whats your opinions? Remember to Explain why you chose your decisions!!!

when i used to work for the Europcar Autoverleih (car rental) as a driver, returning and shuttling across europe, i drove almost always Passat TDi's........they are very fast top speed...........a few times i drove Benz CDI's, they are sweet too, thats why i voted for BOTH............

Economy--TDI
Price--TDI
Power--CDI
Longevity-- Neither, a gas engined Ford will last just as long as both
Servicability--Neither

We all know that most of us will vote for the CDI because of brand loyalty, but to be honest... with the economy numbers being what they are, there is absolutely no reason for the car to even exist. How can they only get to 35mpg in all these years whenever the om617s they were building 30 years ago only got 5 less?!? That doesn't seem like much progress, the engines are the same size, right?

On both, you do get more torque and more miles-per-gallon, but you pay more up front. You also have to worry about servicability-- If the car breaks down, you'll end up at the dealer because absolutely no one else can repair these cars.

My official vote is for both because they are not comparable.

The vw is a 4 cylinder that, while I can't afford one, is affordable to the masses at around 20k. You do, however, have to deal with the cheap fwd mexican car built around them. At least it comes with a dipstick...

The benz is a 6 cylinder car that costs 50k to purchase. It is a traditional rwd car that will be built better than the vw, but your 50 large doesnt even get you a dipstick.

I think the VW TDi has the advantage over the Benz here as its  availible in cars (in the USA anyway) that are affordible to the average person.

RE: Diesel Engines! VW or MB?

Ford gas engine outlast a diesel? What have you been smoking? I don't know of many Ford motors that last over 200,000. And I worked in a junkyard.

And if you are going to go on a rant about your beloved CV 5.0 motor, none of the cruisers we got in survived past 200 grand without MAJOR work.

I have owned a Jetta TDI and several MB diesels. Jetta was a neat little car, yes very affordable and fun to drive. But then again so was our 190D. If only MB would bring back diesels across the product line. God, I miss the 80's.
