Resetting The Service Interval

Hi,

I am going to attempt to service the 2002 G500 I purchased a few months ago. I read about the oil pump and Dutch has helped me with where to buy the parts and tools. The one thing i havent found out is how to reset the service interval in the computer. Can it be done and how do you go about doing it. Thanks for your help

Gabe,

Welcome! The best pump to suck your oil is this one. All others are toys.

RE: Resetting The Service Interval

The reset button sequence is in the user manual for most MBs. If they've dropped that I could locate and post the sequence for our older MBs. It works on both our E and G and probably hasn't changed since.

On my 2000, with the iginition key on, you go to the ASSYS screen and hold the reset button in until it resets. That's all there is too it. Not sure about the 2002+'s.

RE: Resetting The Service Interval

Use the "page" buttons on the steering wheel to bring up the trip and main odometer.

Press the up or down arrows until the FSS indicator appears.

Press the reset button on the instrument cluster.

You will get the message "Do you want to reset the service interval?"

Press the reset button again for >4 seconds

There will be a beep, and the counter resets to 10,000 miles.

You can't undo this, so be sure you want to do it.

On my 2000 G500, I had the press the "R" button for greater than 4 seconds each time. Also, I've read that on earlier model G's, the doors must be shut, don't know if that applies to the your 2002 though.

Good Luck!

amg463 - 9/14/2015 10:54 AM How about for pre-2000 G's?

I'm assuming that you have the W210 E-class style instrument cluster.  I have that on my 96, and this works:

  1. Close doors
  2. Turn ignition key to position 2.
  3. Within 4 sec's press the odometer button twice within 1 second. Cluster should now show reminder status.
  4. Within 10 sec's turn ignition key to position 1.
  5. Press and hold odometer button while turning ignition key to position 2 again, and continue holding the odometer button.
  6. After approximately 10 seconds, a signal gong sounds and the display should reset.
  7. Release the odometer button.

If you make any error in a procedure, turn off ignition for 30 seconds, then turn back on to position
2 and wait for lights to cycle on dash. Turn off ignition and then restart the procedure.

Note: This resets the mileage based reminder.  There is also a days based reminder, and I haven't figured out a way to reset that.

Re: Resetting The Service Interval

Alan, Isn't the time interval also reset when using the manual procedure? 730 days is the initial setting. '98 service manual says it is.

I think that is the way it is supposed to work.  It appears that there is a very rare bug that resets to 0 days instead.  Mine has this bug, and I've run into two others with it.  When reset, the miles go to 10,000 miles (10k because it is a diesel), but the days are set to "Service due in 0 days".  The next day it says "Service is overdue" (or something like that).  Annoying, but not much of a problem in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Resetting The Service Interval

I've never heard of that problem before. Have you tried resetting it with a HHT or MB DAS? Does it beep every time you start the engine and flash a red display at you?

Re: Resetting The Service Interval

A followup to this long dead post.

The solution to the service interval bug is to use the STAR system and go into the instrument cluster settings.  There you will find a corrupted value in the "number of days until warning" (paraphrasing here).  It is supposed to be a number and instead it has a bunch of letters and symbols.  Replace that with a big number, say 1000, and you are good to go.

Re: Resetting The Service Interval

Sorry to drudge up an old post. If there a procedure for resetting a 2015 G63 service interval reminder available? I did a search and could not find it.

Appreciate it!

Re: Resetting The Service Interval

Ok I figured it out.

1. Close vehicle door.
2. You need to be in the odometer/mileage screen.
3. Insert key and turn to position 1.
4. Press Telephone (answer call button on steering column) then press and hold “ok” button for 3-4 seconds. (Hold down both buttons).

If you wait too long it will ask you if you want to reset trip odometer. Start over from step 1.

If done correctly you will see a service menu starting w “Vehicle Data” there are some electronic information available in these menus like assembly and engine numbers.

5. Scroll to ASSYsT PLUS

It will take you to submen “Service Data” and “Full Service”

6. Select “Full Service” which lists the services completed. The last choice will let you configure/reset the counter.

It will ask you to confirm reset as this cannot be undone.

I couldn’t find this info in the owners manual and MB Customer Service told me to go to a dealer to get it reset w the STAR system.

So my little contribution to the forum... happy motoring y’all.
