Legit time warp??

What do you guys think? Does this one look legit?

" Showroom New 1989 Mercedes 420 SEL -- 25800 miles. "

He sure sounds legit. Wish he'd let us see the upholstery

RE: Legit time warp??

The exterior sure looks nice, but I'm always wary when I see those sheepskin covers over the seats. If the interior is shit, I have to wonder how that happened on such a low mileage car.

RE: Legit time warp??

Could be hiding something
Despite being ugly IMO, I have sheepskin covers on my 500's seats to protect and preserve their good condition but if I were selling it I'd surely want them to be seen

I'd like to see things like, a close up of the steering wheel rim, gear shift knob and foot pedals to see how much wear they have

RE: Legit time warp??

yeesh... it's up to $14K now, although I'm not sure the lead bidder is legit.

That's a major problem with eBay, as most of you know.

Still... it's getting out of my price range

RE: Legit time warp??

I'd be very wary of sending someone that has no feedback $14,000! Especially since his high bidder has 1 single feedback AND that he has been a member for 3 years without completing a transaction.

Aside from the full sheepskins(the rears are almost never covered in 'cover up' jobs, that is evidence on the good side) the car does look very nice.

A w126 sedan is going to take a while to mature into a collectors automobile. Do you have time to wait for that to happen, old man? You may wish to get something a bit older if you want your investment to grow rapidly. This car is going to have to be sat on like a big smoke silver egg.

Oh yeah... and you'll barely get to enjoy it without feeling guilty-- better get a pair.

And lastly-- Was the 420 not the bastard child of the w126 line? Did it not combine the fuel economy of the 560 with the low output of the 300? It seems like most of the used up w126's I see on the market are 420s, take that for what it is.

All this said... I still want one. A green one-- I'd call her Mary Jane, and she would be my buddy.

RE: Legit time warp??

No idea, but it wouldn't surprise me if the number is high.

It's kind of an open secret that eBay has an incentive to tolerate deadbeat bidders.

They get a relisting fee each time it happens

RE: Legit time warp??

Ya know, I just looked at that white one again.

1. They are really dreaming with their BIN price.  But I said that already.

2. There's something surreal about that engine compartment.

Okay, I kinda said that already too.  But... it's cleaner than my E which has only 6K miles,
and I've spent time cleaning it.  Weird.
