I had a 350 ML (2005), just bought a 320 CDI.... The wear indicator came on at 29000 miles on the 350. The front pads were worn. I think the pads and sensors were in the $90 range. There is a pad the does not give off the black dust, but you need to go to the G section and ask Dutch the brand name. I replaced the pads myself in 60-70 minutes and that included removing the wheels and replacing them with an electric power wrench. Retorqing the lug bolts is usually about 90-110 Ft pounds or really tight with a 1/2 pull bar & a 17mm socket. All that was required was a 15 mm LONG (As in length)box end wrench to remove the 2 bolts that hold the pads, but it never hurts to have a good set of wrenches. (Socket will not fit the close area) You will need a large pair of Channel Locks to squeeze the piston back into the caliper and all the way in I might add. Mbenz charges $300 for the total job....spend it on wrenches and oyu will be happier. I would suggest you add drop of liquid wrench to the bolts when you replace them. EZ as pie  | |

Trying to change pads in our 06 W211 wagon.........you have to deactivate the SBC with the Star Diagnostic System before touching the pads...... Pushed the single piston front caliper back into its starting position and wanted to changed the pads the "old" fashion way  I did noticed very quickly my parts indie had sold me the wrong pads, nice Pagid ones, but wrong ones  Also no pad wear indicators to see! So, everything went smothly back together, but when I tried to pressure up the brake pedal and move the pads back to the disk - hell broke loose! I have never seen so many red lights come on in the display, bells and whistles were going off, but in no way I could reset those pads/brakes  The brake system needed to be initialized with the MB Star Computer, and with the click of the computer keyboard - the brake pressure was established and controlled/tested for each wheel, and the SBC unit brought the pads back against the disk - not with the foot pedal!
