BenzDieselTuner - 4/24/2007 1:33 AM diesel is up to 3.05 here in florida..... gas is 2.87.......

Always only compare diesel price to premium gasoline price.

1.  Mercedes only makes premium gasoline cars.

2.  Diesel contains more btu/gal than gasoline and is therefore a high performance fuel.  In either case, the engine is benefitting from the efficiency of high compression.

HempCar runs on pure hempseed oil

HempCar visited Portland, Oregon on it's national tour to show how diesel engines can run on pure hempseed oil. They are traveling 10,000 miles through 48 cities in the US and Canada in a ninety day tour that has been covered by media across North America. Kellie & Grayson Sigler and Scott Furr are interviewed. Go to www.hempcar.org for more info and to support their tour.

Chevron goes into the Waste business

Earlier this month, Green Progress News reported that Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) was teaming up with the city of Rialto, California, in the construction of a system to take the greasy waste water and sludge generated by restaurants and transform it into a usable energy source. The team is using the impending necessity of waste-water treatment facility expansion for Rialto to take advantage of construction expense outlays that would have been expected anyway.

Fats, oils, and grease that are routinely sent out as waste from restaurants, and that currently go directly to landfills will instead be deposited at the Chevron/Rialto facility, which shall be the recipient of the waste hauler's "tipping fees" also. Tipping fees are simply the haulers' cost for emptying their loads. Typically, all that restaurant waste, and the potential trapped within it, ferments in our landfills, creating methane gas, most of which ends up in our atmosphere unless it's burned off immediately. The Rialto/Chevron project will instead process these wastes utilizing an organic matter "digester," producing methane for conversion into hydrogen, which can then be used to generate electricity.

The financial angles on this project will present some noticeable impact both in expenditure and returns. It is estimated it shall cost a bit over $15 million to build the system and bring it to operational status. When completed, the project will become eligible for a $4.05 million rebate on the fuel-cell plant cost from California's Self-Generation Incentive Program. The balance of the costs will reportedly be recovered through energy cost savings, and there are no expected taxpayer costs. Additionally, the system will be utilizing a bit less than 1,000 kilowatts of generating capacity to provide baseload power, which should assist in keeping consumer electricity costs stable. Grace Vargas, Rialto's mayor, has stated: "It's a 'win' for multiple stakeholders -- our city taxpayers, restaurants, grease haulers, and the environment."

Biodiesel Banned in Texas!

i spotted this while going through some search pages.......

"Come December 31st, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is set to effectively ban biodiesel in the state’s largest markets. The problem, they say, lies with the fuel’s nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and their contribution to the formation of ground-level ozone in Texas’ eastern counties. According to the TCEQ, biodiesel does not meet the stricter NOx standards recently imposed on diesel and alternative diesel fuels under new regulations. Efforts to clean up the air, led the TCEQ in November 2005 to adopt Texas low emission diesel standards (TxLED) in an effort to reduce pollutants in the state’s smoggiest 110 counties. Texas’ biodiesel industry - the largest in the country - suddenly found itself essentially outlawed after the standards went into effect."

HOWEVER, many business selling Biodiesel blends now will switch over to selling only B100, which the government there doesnt consider a motor fuel, and has NO authority over.....

Biofuel from Wine

Up to 510 million litres of this year's surplus wine will be made into bioethanol that can only be used as biofuel or industrial alcohol, the European Commission announced on Wednesday. French winemakers have been given a quota of 150m hectolitres of table wine and 150m of quality wine, while Italians can sell 250m of quality and 10m litres of table wine for what the EU calls "crisis distillation." Greek and Spanish winemakers have also asked the EU to to buy their unwanted wine, and are awaiting a response. Turning quality wine into bioethanol may not be the cheapest way of producing biofuel, but it makes use of some of the excess wine that would otherwise go to waste.

Trying to be sure I understand everything involved with switching a 1980 GD300 over to veggie oil. What system can get you started? Is this engine ready for it? Can I just start with a mixture?

Plans thus far - install new gas tank, run the (hot) radiator hose down the length of the fuel line, insulated.. mix up batch and see what happens? Would appreciate some feedback from someone experienced. Way excited for this and would like to just get it done.

If driving behind a WVO McDonalds powered car smells like french fries, driving behind the HempCar must smell like a "trip" down to Veneta in the Summer
