RE: Where are the W211 owners?

<>Roch, go ahead and do it! I love G's but if you're going to be driving it a lot, you'll prefer the E.

I fell in love with it in the first place by driving my friend's E320; it fit like a glove and handled like a second skin.

And the CDI is a knockout package. I think all the CDIs are NAV or NAV-ready too.

And...welcome MBnAZ !

Re: Where are the W211 owners?

We wanted a new one (Euro delivery), but we still cannot buy a new CDI in Massachusetts. Can't wait until 2008 and the AdBlue cars, so I found a 2005 that will hold us over. It has Sirius, but I am not sure if it has Nav. Has rear seat package, wood/leather steering wheel with controls, heating package and glass sunroof. I'll know today if the deal goes through or not. I'll get to keep the 95 and the truck and the wife will get the 05.

RE: Where are the W211 owners?

Thanks, AsianML. It was through one of your posts to another forum that I found this forum. I lurk around a lot and don't say too much, but have always appreciated reading the threads of "big" guys over here. I wondered what had happened to them all when I didn't see them very often on those other sites. Good thing for me that you're a post whore!

I think all the '05s are NAV-Ready so you can pay a dealer to install the NAV module and you're good to go.
(It is nearly $2000 though!)

In '03 and maybe some '04s MB made many E's which can't be converted; they're easy to identify because they don't have the larger COMAND screen and NAV buttons etc which are found in all the later models whether or not they actually have NAV installed. An '05 CDI ought to be a great car that can last you forever ...

Hehe, no problem MBnAZ. Being a post whore does do good sometimes. Marsden, NAV can be easily retrofitted as a DIY project if I'm not mistaken...?

Re: Where are the W211 owners?

Dealer sent some photos that show the COMAND screen with the words HOME, DESTINATION and DIRECTIONS on the screen. I am going to assume it has nav. We'll see.

Don't be too certain though. The MCS on the ML has all of those buttons as well as buttons for the phone system, but we have neither of them installed. If you try pressing the buttons it will say "No Navigation System Installed" or something along those lines.

So you've got it for sure then? Congrats! Welcome to the Club... and PLEASE start a new thread (with photos!) as this one has answered its own question I think!

Animals, you're doubtless right that the NAV module can be owner-installed... I went to the dealer so they'd be responsible in case anything went wrong and also because I'm lazy

Thanks fgwinn. The manual is only 700 pages long, but yes I did get through them all.

Every time we buy a car the first thing I do that night is read the manual and program everything. Yeah, it takes a while and I could be doing other things but it sure beats the heck out of not knowing how to use anything and the clock and stuff all off.

Re: Where are the W211 owners?

Replaced our black 02 E320 with a 07 black E350...aside from the flowery smell of the interior and the encyclopedia brittanica-like owners and command manuals, it almost made me forget our trusty old W210. We opted for the non-sport model because although my wife feels the non-sport is still a bit "Bling", the Sport option with the silver IP and bigger wheels was a bit much for her, especially since we are so conservative. The old E320 was still quite conservative, this newer one will take some getting used to, but I LOVE all of the goodies, she loves the heated front seats. I will admit that the Wife-Unit's Honda CR-V has a more user friendly NAVI system...it's for her, I usually plot things on a map before hand. Wow, first post in over a year...
