SBC Experiences?

So what's everyone's experience with the notorious SBC system?

(Electro-hydraulic 'Sensotronic Brake Control' braking system)

I never had any troubles with SBC, and contrary to some reports I found actuation to be precise and well-modulated.

Separately, note the warranty extension if you haven't.

RE: SBC Experiences?

I find that SBC can be a little bit touchy at first. If you're not used to them. Besides that no problems!
I really like the brake drying feature! 0

Re: SBC Experiences?

No problems. Several recall bulletines and corrections made. I did find out that the wiring harness was re-filtted and secured as per the bulletin.

Re: SBC Experiences?

With me driving myself in this city of 12 to 15 million people, I love the SBC and have never had a problem with it.

RE: SBC Experiences?

NO problems while driving, but when you want to change the brake pad the old fashion way did not work.
SBC needs to be deactivated first and after the maintenance/repair activated again.

All this needs to be done with a MB Star Diagnostic System - no wonder having a problems finding aftermarket brake pads....

Overheated brake fluid message

Overheated brake fluid message with SBC system in 2008 SL550...

I have never experienced this in my E500, but, three times in three separate practice sessions after some hard braking in our SL550 I got an overheated brake fluid message when tracking the car at the 2008 MBCA Tri-O-Rama event in NJ. This wasn't a problem per se since the brake fluid probably really was overheated. I think the message read something like "Overheated brake fluid, continue on, but drive more carefully." Other drivers with SBC-equipped W211s were seeing the same message.

Oddly enough the message never came on while applying the brakes at 120 mph before heading into a turn. The message only appeared during the two-mile cool down lap when I did not even use the brakes.
