New Mechanical diesel engines ( The rebirth of the diesel)

MB Trucks factory in Sao Paulo / Brazil , put in the market an optional mechanical diesel engine for mini busses - The OM 364 LA / 4 cylinders. (110 HP 470 NM) - This engine mets the EURO 4 emissions level being a mechanical engine . Its good to see the not complex mechanical diesel coming back.

OM 612 LA is also being produced here ( 156 HP and 330 n.m version) for the urban truck ACELLO 715. This one is an electronic engine but until the point i understood without ESP, etc... I am going to ask .

This 612 will be easy to swaped into an non electronic G?

To be corret 47 KGF 460nm , and it its EURO 3 ( what is not bad ).

Put a data chart , its in portuguese but diagrams , important figures names and units are universal and easy to understand.

The OM612 LA is the Sprinter *16 CDi/G270CDi-engine.

Are there any conversions out there for elect. controlled to mechanicallly controlled. There is a guy in Germany that does this conversion on the VW 1.9 td motor. I would love a mech conversion of the MBZ 3.2 td motor.

Let's see ...

You want a mechanical injection pump?  You won't get 20,000 psi at the injectors, of course.  And you certainly won't get multiple injector pulses.

Guess you'll have to have a single-stage turbo, because you won't get variable blade pitch control without electronics. 

No electronics means your fuel injection will know nothing of engine temperature or ambient altitude or intake air mass.  This engine isn't going to run efficiently lots of the time.

When you're done you'll have about the same thing as a 1980s diesel.   Be easier to buy one of these than to ruin a new one.

And, if you want to really eliminate electronics, you can go without glow plugs, too.  Get out the ether.

Yes, exactly.

I want an engine that can run underwater (with a snorkel), can run with a disabled alternator or battery and without an electronic management system. I also want one that is a 200,00+ mile high compression engine, has lots of low end torque, and can go 400+ miles on a primary tank of fuel.

Your point is well taken however. Perhaps I have been equating the reliability of the 320 CDI motor in my wife's 2006 E320 CDI with that of my 1985 300 GD. It may be a good high efficiency motor for getting groceries, but perhaps not the best motor for a serious backcountry vehicle.

I'll keep the glowplugs though.
