RE: Mercedes Unlock Codes

Someone else posted this for a W211 .....

The above instructions work fine to get into Engineer mode. But on my Euro Version W211. I had to use the following to get up the hidden menu.

1. Press and hold #
2. While holding #, press and hold *
3. While holding the first two, press and hold <

RE: Mercedes Unlock Codes

What a disappointment Couldn't get it to work at all.

Tried various combinations since the buttons on my 215 are slightly different, but nothing doing.

And the 215 COMAND is identical to the 220 system after all..

Anyone have additional clues? I need to watch Simpsons episodes on the highway

RE: Mercedes Unlock Codes

Wow. I just researched this on another forum and the thread is full of 1-and 2-post newbies saying "Hi how can u make dvds show when driving wot is code for this mine is a 2000 model i tried codes here but didnt work" etc etc.  So, at least I'm in good company

With my COMAND, even though it contains a DVD drive, visual display is enabled at all times, even when the car is in Park with the parking brake applied.  It will play DVDs (sound only) with a message inidicating that visuals are not displayed due to safety concerns.  Apparently this is only for US models, as our litigious society makes video/driving lawsuits too likely.  See also http://www.mbenznl.com/products/w211comands.shtml

RE: Mercedes Unlock Codes

Couldn't get it to work on mine either. I got this for free from someone who bought the instructions on ebay , apparently saying that it will work for a R230.

... well back to the Radio Shop which did my W163  TV-in-motion change.  I guess the only way is to get them to program the Comand via the SDS (OBDII diag) computer.

Usually they charge 80 Euros to make the setting in the comand.

Don't bother going to your dealer , the latest SDS computers have the option removed (Latest EU laws forbid manufacturers from enabling the TV-IN-MOTION option).

Most places that do comand repairs, retrofits, etc... have portable SDS's with the 2005 version of the software that will enable the option. Costs around 80 Euro for them to do the 10sec setup.

RE: Mercedes Unlock Codes

A couple of the sources I researched said that on recent models, the hdwe is actually different for North American models, such that you have to switch out the entire module for a Euro version.  I don't know if it's true, but it seemed to be the consensus

RE: Mercedes Unlock Codes

Working on this .... got loads of info reading all sorts of german forums.....

will update soon ..... It seems real easy for a W211 , but with the SL I can only get into engineering mode ..... the next mode key sequences don't work ..... apparantly the SL has a siemens Comand and the line with most forum members is that is must be unlocked via the OBE.
