1986 W460 rear chassis repair

The rear shock supports on my W460 chassis are in need of some attention.
Rust has nearly corroded through one support.
So I ordered the supports from my MB dealer and will start work on them next week.
Grinding off the old ones and welding the new supports in place.

Just a little thread to see if anyone has "been" there allready.

Thanx I'll have a look at those upper spring mounts as well.

I replaced the rear springs a while ago, but didn't actually look at their mounts.

Hi Chris,

Been there, done that...

1. Make sure you make some "reference points" up front of the shock support so you're sure that you can mount the new supports at exactly the same place.
2. Once you've done that, remove the old ones
3. Make sure that the areas where you need to weld are clean - if possible sand blast the frame tube where you need to weld the support to
4. Weld the new supports in place - In my case, a professional welder did the job
5. Make sure you've got a decent rust protection to put on it when finished

Hope this helps

Jean

Ps The pic below shows in what a bad shape that area of my G Frame was. All supports were replaced...
