S600 Interior

Well I am quite a fan of the W140, especially the S500 and S600. To me nothing says "I have loyal people who wil shoot you" like driving a black S-Class, and the W140 is quite a huge and imposing vehicle. However I have noticed, whilst searching eBay, that all the S600s have two tone interior, black and grey. I really like the black interior, but I am not so keen on the grey centers to the seats. Are all S600s two toned interior?

Earlier 600s were all one tone, but they do not have other things such as teh hand stiched leather and wood steering wheel. But then to get that do you want to deal with an early V12?

well, not ALL S600's. You see, for the S600, there was a variety of colors that you could choose from. Some of which were same colors, with the S600 style of seat (coupe-styled seats*), while MOST of the S600's had the two tone seats, which were also coupe-styled seats*.

Regardless of whether or not it was two-tone, all S600s, starting from 1995, and ending in 1999, had the coupe-styled seats*

the 92-94 600 SEL did not have coupe styled seats*, nor hand stiched leather, but instead, the regular W140 seats**.

*Coupe-Styled Seats - The coupe styled seats were the same type of seats that were found in the C140/W140 Coupe, except, instead of them being individual seats, it is still a bench seat, except it has the coupe styling. These seats came standard on the S600's only.

Example Picture:

]

**Regular W140 Seats - The regular W140 seats were standard for all US Spec W140's. They came on all 92-94 W140s, and they came on the 95-99 S320, S350 Turbodiesel, S420, and S500.

Hope this helps DaHappyBanana

Well, not 100% true.... the only US version S500 that had "coupe" style seats was the 1999 S500 Grand Edition. They are not two-tone, but have the same style seat the S600 does. I've seen a few regular S500s in Canada with the coupe style seat as well. The U.S really got shafted on options for the W140...

oh yea, that is true. The Grand Edition also has the coupe styled seats, but I do not believe that they are two tone? Am I right Dantefr?

You are right about the US not getting as many options. There were a bunch of Canadian W140's I have seen on eBay, and they have the hand stiched leather, as well as the two one coupe styled seats.

That would have been cool if we could have more choices.

You guys are talking about the rear seats right?

If so, I believe Markcedes is right about the Grand Edition not having electric rear seat backs. I believe that it doesn't. I don't understand why though. It is supposed to be grand, and have almost all the S600 features, however the Grand does not. I have seen numerous pics of the S500 Grand, as well as seeing one in person, and still, no electric rear seat backs. I really love all the options on it though.

Anyone know why?

BTW, DanteFr, does your have an electric seat back?

Nope, one of a few features the "Grand" is without. It also doesn't have bumper sensors, or power rear headrests.... Also, the hand-stiched leather is only on the seats, the dash and door handles are just plain-ole S500 parts. Either way, I love the Grand, and it still beats a regular S500 (at least in my opinion)

It is a really nice car but it just seems strange that certain features have been left out.

Yea, it really does suck that a lot of options were left out.... And yes, the Grand Edition was only available with Obsidian Black Paint and Parchment Intereior. The wood package was apparently only placed on the Grand Edition too.... Some sort of limited edition color....

nope, They didn't cut them off in 1997. My 1997 S600 had them standard. I think however, many W140's came out of the factory, as domesic deliveries, and they were not equipped with the electric seat backs.

I think the USA got shafted for options in teh w140, which is strange because I think Americans love toys just as much as us if not more.
