i still like it but my friends 14 y/o 92 500 sel has electric seat back and headrests were these standard i think they cut them off after 97

nope, They didn't cut them off in 1997. My 1997 S600 had them standard. I think however, many W140's came out of the factory, as domesic deliveries, and they were not equipped with the electric seat backs.

I think the USA got shafted for options in teh w140, which is strange because I think Americans love toys just as much as us if not more.

oh yes, Definately. without a doubt. That's how it always is.

For instance, on the W220 S Class, Everywhere except North America, got the option of having Rear Tray tables.

O well, thats the W220.

Not a problem Markcedes. It's great having a previous owner of a W140 in the W140 forum. You can help us out with many of the problems that we are having, cuz you have probably experienced them, as we have.

Great to have you Markcedes.

My guess is that it is the bean counters throwing their weight around.

Re: S600 Interior

It's kinda funny... my 500SEL has more features then the Grand Edition! Including the electric rear seats, electric rear head-rests, electric center rear-view mirror..... But then again, my 93 500SEL had a sticker price of a little over $108,000 in 93 and the Grand Edition's was "only" $98,000 six years later....

Dantefr,
Could you please take some pics of what the illuminated door sills on your S500 Grand look like at night? I have been interested in getting myself a set.

Yeah, no problem... I'm currently out of town and won't be returning until Thursday, but I could snap a few pics when I get back.

Cool. I have seen some pics of what they look like in the daytime when they are not lit up, but haven't really seen any when they are lighted up.

Thanks Dantefr.

Well, not 100% true.... the only US version S500 that had "coupe" style seats was the 1999 S500 Grand Edition. They are not two-tone, but have the same style seat the S600 does. I've seen a few regular S500s in Canada with the coupe style seat as well. The U.S really got shafted on options for the W140...

That's correct. I have S600 syle interior in my S500. Supposedly it was an option called "Presidential Interior" or something.

Ok, here's a few pictures of the door sills on my Grand Edition.... Hope you like em

Well.... it appears that my attachments need to be less than 100mb, so I'll need to either resize them, or take new ones.... I'll try to post them by the end of today.
