| May 2006 Preach to the Converted Thread – 123 Forum
I don’t know what it is about this old 300 D of mine but I sometimes can’t wait to drive it. I’m not only anxious for work to end for work to end but to drive my 123d home. It’s very comfortable to sit in, it’s easy to drive, and it feels great on the road.
Sadly the days of strangers coming up to me asking to buy her are over – a little over a year ago the mechanic (non-MB) next door where I once lived wanted to buy her b/c he knew it was a quality car, he was quite aggressive about it. But I resisted remembering how others regretted selling their 123s.
She’s ugly as sin but in fine mechanical shape. She’s got new brake pads and fresh ATF and filter. The engine starts right away and does not smoke at all, cold start or wot.
I’ve got a heater hose leak to track down and I want to fix the blower motor but I don’t ever see growing tired of this wonderful car.

My 1983 240 D was certainly in my top 5 favorite MB's. The tranny went at 275,000 and I traded it for a 300 SD. The 240 D never left me stranded and was faithful to the end. One day I was over at the local parts yard, and there she was! The next owner had put another 75,000 miles on the clock before the engine gave up. I got the books out of the glovebox---call me sentimental! |

mine was 2 years long a yard car, before i rescued her......
she was sadly in the hands of an idiot, who thought she was done for, caus with 200k on the clock, dead battery, and bad brake cylinder.....
43,100+ miles later, we see her today.............
i got her in Dec. 2004
