Re: Ignition switch or starter relay?

I now own the OP's w460 and I can say the problem is the neutral safety that DesertStar shows. I haven't replaced it though. I have a switch directly to the jumper post on the inner fender well. Works every time.

Re: Ignition switch or starter relay?

I did change the starter, and got the Bosch SR59X Starter, that is compatible, with the solenoid in the opposite side, and the cables inverted compared with the original G starter.

Had to use just one bolt for the heat shield.

Mike, do you have the part number for the safety switch? 0005454906? Would like to replace that also. Anything is worth not to get stranded at noon, in the summer, in sunny Texas...

Any instruction on how to replace it?

RE: Ignition switch or starter relay?

I do not remember the part number, but remember it was common to sedans as well and looks like it on attached photo.  There are a instructions on youtube and varous forums with photo details.  I used the instructions pages attached.

i remember it was about a 20 minute fix.

Re: Ignition switch or starter relay?

Every summer I have the same issue, the fuel pump works, but the starter will not work until it cools down.

I replaced the starter and neutral A/T safety switch.

By any chance, does the 280GE have a relay in the circuit?
I read that cars with the M110 have a relay for AC and starter...

If it does, would be great to get the part number.

I suppose an update on this topic is due. The OP sold to WEBIII who in turn sold to me. The jumper that was installed always worked to start the beast but the key to start continued misbehaving even after the new neutral safety switch, until a new wire loom was installed. It has been 9 years since the OP, 6 months since all wires were replaced(batt, starter, alternator, grounds), the key works 100% of the time now.

As others more wise than I have stated, make sure your grounds are rock solid and follow the power. Small amounts of voltage drop in the starter wires and weak grounding caused this problem.

Thank you,

Matt

100% doesn't mean I'm confident enough to remove your remote starter switch. Any time, it's yours again.
