Do I have to buy an MB child car seat to disable the airbag?
MB seats advertise an automatic child seat recognition transponder....
Can I disable the airbag and use a normal car seat?? |

I am only aware of deactivation using the MB
carseat or, for older children, booster seat. The
booster seat is adjustable and has served my
daughter well as she has grown (now age 9).
It's the kind of thing I didn't want to fool around
both in terms of safety (foremost) and liability
(keeping liability where it belongs). |

I've heard many stories of people buying an old mercedes child seat on ebay, removing the transponder and re fitting this to a new child seat, thus disabling the airbag and giving you the freedom of choice over which car seat you can use. |
