"Double-Bagged for Your Protection"

Yesterday, the weather report called for possible rain showers, so I decided not to take the SLK to work. Since my lawn service was scheduled to come, and I had to leave the SLK in the driveway, I decided to give it a bit of extra protection. The MB cover doesn't extend down completely over the alloy wheels, though the body is completely covered. I was concerned about stones thrown about by the leaf blower. I installed the SLK cover, then put my W210 E-Class cover over it. Amazingly, it fit like a glove over the front end, the outside mirrors, the roof and the side. Only at the rear end did it hang loose, because of the much greater length of the E-Class. On Sunday, we had heavy winds, and I had to go out a few times to pull the cover back over the roof and rear end. The front of the cover held tight, and the mirrors secured it over the windshield. In a pinch, it's a good bit of extra protection against wayward projectiles. Although, due to lower height, the SLK hood looks extra long, and the car looks super wide, the front-bumper-to-mirror proportions are just about equal, and the widths don't seem that far off either. The extra "bagging" gave me peace of mind while at work, although a tradesman across the street who saw me removing the extra cover must have thought that I was ready for the funny farm! Dinoman

How about a bungee cord with industrial strength clips across the rear wheels to grab the lower portion of the outer cover and secure the rear end?

Sounds like a great idea, Etyu. This was just an improvised thing, but I would certainly consider something like that for a double covering of any great length. Dinoman

I find the ribbed version most enjoyable.

I was going to suggest bubble wrap between the two layers with the flat part of the bubble wrap facing away from the car and next to the outer layer.
