That G looks great.. would be interesting to know something about their reliability in off-road drive, but they seem appropriate to an heavy use and less brittle than xenon lights

I have not used them off road, however they are US Military Spec, and I would expect they use them off road. These are heavy, well made lights. FYI. If anyone is interested in these. I purchased them at: The Chrome Shop 125 Hwy 167 North Bald Knob, AR 72010 Phone: (501) 724-8789 Mr. Josh Foster is the owner. He has them drop shipped from J.W. Speaker Corporation. Part number 0544001. 8700-12/24V Led Hi.Low DOT Headlamp.

FYI- These are light years ahead of the LED Trucklite Headlamps. The Trucklite Lamps suck. And these are only a tiny bit more money. The beam dispersion is incredible on these.

I'm a new member on this forum, but not new to G-class. The speaker 8700 lights looks good, and I'm considering an upgrade as well. Hopefully you could give me some advice please? You changed to speaker 8700 led lights in your two 1995 500GE's. You mention that the original lights in these cars were significantly worse than the original lights in your G500 2002. If you compare the speaker lights with the original lights in the G500 2002, are the speaker lights still much better? My G is a 2005 and the lights should be comparable to your G500. Also, do you know if these lights produce any error codes in the newer G's, as the current draw must be considerably less than original lights? Thanks Lunde

Hi Lunde73, I can not answer the question regarding error codes in the newer G. Yes, I expect that the JW Speaker 8700 lights pull less amps then the OEM lights, but I can not tell you how much, etc. They are a huge improvement over the OEM European lights and the standard US DOT style light's that were in my two 93 500GE's. Allow me to put my 2002 G500 and one of the 93 500GE's side by side and compare them. I will try to do that tonight and take some pictures to give you a better comparison.

A comparison would be fantastic. I think I will e-mail J.W. Speaker Corporation and ask if they have any knowledge on error codes. Maybe they have received some feedback from other G-class owners? I read that some had problems with error codes when they upgraded to xenon lamps, but switching the software setting in the car to xenon using the STAR diagnostic interface/software apparently fixed this. LED is of course something else though. Thanks again. Lunde

I parked my 2002 G500 with factory xenon lamps next to my 93 500GE with the JW Speaker LED headlights tonight. They are lined up side by side. It is hard to see from the pictures, but both set's are very good. The 2002 lights are yellow in color while the LED lights are white. I like the white light better, it is hard to tell which project farther. What do you think? I parked the two G's in my driveway, next to each other, lined up even as though ready to drag race. The driveway has a slight curve in it as it approaches the street, which would explain the slight difference in picture placement. I was never told by either JW Speaker Corp or the chrome Shop who sold them to me that there is a left and right side light. There was nothing indicating left or right side light when received and I just installed them. I will check into that, because if I have a left and right side light I want to make sure they are correct. The LED lights were then checked by a NC State inspection station to ensure they are aligned correctly. I have never had another driver flash at me, so I don't think we are blinding anyone. I took all photo's with my cell phone and I stood in front of the G with my leg's pressing against the bumper and my back lined up with the silver star in the grill. I was trying to center myself. Nothing scientific here. Just some comparison shots as requested. That's all I can tell you about these lights. I like them. AGuess

Very impressive indeed, the speaker lights seem to illuminate more than the OEM lights IMO seeing the pictures Does the 2002 model have xenon lights; mine has the incandescent H4 bulb? I'll try to find out if error codes are an issue. Thanks Lunde

It refers to whether the vehicle is a Left Hand Drive or Right Hand Drive vehicle, as in UK and some other parts of the world vs the US, continental Europe and other parts of the world. The lights for a vehicle driven on the right side of the road - e.g. LHD as in the US - have to have a light pattern that is different from a RHD vehicle which drives on the left side of the road.

Regardless, considering the cost, i'd suggest buying some paint protection film straight away to keep them from getting chipped/cracked/damaged. They sell a little thicker stuff for things like headlights... it reminds me i need to do this for the 2002 style headlights i have waiting to drop in.

I should not have said xeon. It appears that the housing on the LED light's are a very hard plastic, not glass.

Yes, it looks just like them on the Jeep concept. Yes, I received the correct lights, they just have to put on a light alignment machine like any head light. They still work great.
