Re: New J.W Speaker 8700 LED Headlights.

They are light years ahead of the Truck-Lite product. I did a basic test a couple nights ago before I got my Porsche buckets and it was clear and apparent that the light output was better, and beam dispersion significantly more full.

Having them both installed and aligned, big difference. I would not spend my money on the TruckLite product.

I own the TruckLite lamps as well.

Re: New J.W Speaker 8700 LED Headlights.

I will post some pictures. I should have done a better job of a before/after picture set. Oh well.

For those that do NOT want HID, I would get in touch with Daniel Stern and ask about the Cibie or Kaito lamps he sells.

I have Cibie 7 Inch Round lamps and had them in my Hummer H1. Really fantastic lamp. Made in Belgium IIRC.

Like having HIDs in terms of light dispersion, but the colour of light is halogen instead of the HID/LED "white sunshine". This is with the Cibie 7 Inch lenses. Of course, they are a fraction of the cost of the Speaker LED lamps. But certainly better than the TruckLite LED lamps and they cost much less.

Re: New J.W Speaker 8700 LED Headlights.

JW Speaker has come out with the newer version of the 8700 which is now the 8700 Evolution in which the length of the back is shorter. I saw that some were going to try installing these into a 02+ G and just wondering if anyone was successful at it without having any error codes.
It says Current Draw is: 2.50 Amps @ 12V DC / 1.30 Amps @ 24V DC

Only thing I can see is that there are two connections that come out for the 02+ G
First the regular H4 Connection which should just be plug and play.
Second the connection for the Parking Light that goes under the original Halogen bulb. If that is not plugged into anything, I think there would be an error code that probably says the Parking Light needs to be replaced. Since there is only ONE H4 Plug coming out the back of the 8700

But if you got it to work...that would be great

Re: New J.W Speaker 8700 LED Headlights.

I was seriously considering upgrading my 2002 G with these but decided to hold off and bought some very very very nice bulbs!!!

Seriously the best bulbs I have ever bought! I would suggest try these before going to the LEDs! You can find them cheaper on amazon and eBay btw.

The LED headlights are very nice, especially for the money.

I would only ever use OEM quality bulbs in a G from Osram Germany or similar.

What is the reason? Just because it's "OEM"? Or another reason?

I consider my upgrade in Bulb(from OEM) no different than someone upgrading to LEDs. It's all about quality and safety and the bulbs I bought are leaps and bounds better than MB OEM bulbs!!

Re: New J.W Speaker 8700 LED Headlights.

Well, there are two types of "silverstar" bulbs.  The USA kind that are simply blue tinted, and the euro version that is white and bright.  The bulbs that come from the factory with the ZKW's are the white and bright version.  Short of going significantly over-wattage you aren't going to get a much better bulb.

The ZXEs I bought do have a blue tint to the lense BUT when on are a vey very very clear white light! No blue color what so ever and a 100 times brighter than MB stocks

I think wishful perception is over riding objectivity. Are you trying to say that those lights are 5500 watts?

JW Speaker has come out with the newer version of the 8700 which is now the 8700 Evolution in which the length of the back is shorter.

In addition, the new version now has an optically inferior polycarbonate lens which is more impact resistant than the optically superior glass lens on the original 8700. Just a fwiw.
