I have noticed, both in my SL and in the SLK, that when taking my foot off the accelerator as I approach a stoplight, the transmission downshifts in such a way that the car practically stops without applying the brakes. Since it happens on both cars, I attribute it to the 7-Gtronic automatic. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts? Diinoman

RE: Short Coastdown

I don't slow down

Seriously, I've noticed engine braking like you describle in the S mode but not in the C mode...

RE: Short Coastdown

Bufobob, I have both of the cars in the S mode. Maybe that's it. Thanks for the response. Dinoman

I don't have the 7G, but on my Nissan Murano, I used the sports mode to slow down, almost to the point of stopping. It's a great feature, I love engine braking.

Re: Short Coastdown

Ynot, Until I posted this inquiry, and Bufobob responded, I didn't know that the Sport mode was causing the rapid slowdown. I, too, like it. It saves brake pad wear and, almost as important, brake dust on the wheels. Thanks for your pm. I'll keep you updated on the pix situation. Dimoman
