I just had to keep them after hearing the story about the truck. I also liked the G-Wagen silhouette on the lower corners on each of the mats... I have a bunch of black leather left over so that will be for another project.

AGuess: Thanks again for the encouragement. I am really enjoying my "vintage" Miami Vice truck. The little projects are fun. The warranty with the G55 left me with nothing to do aside from handpick the best mechanic at my local dealer (who happens to know nothing of pre-2000 Mercedes) and arrange a pizza party for his team whenever it goes in for service. Next project: Installing G55 tail light guards.

AGuess - 3/24/2012 12:40 PM Looks Great. I must say that I miss Miami, having grown up there. AGuess It is part of the U.S. only because it is physically attached. It is a third world country. No joke. Be thankful you live in a proper American town. The traffic and congestion is horrible most of the time. Give third worlders from South American countries road signs, traffic lights, a car, and a cellphone...it is too much to process at the same time. I am sorry to say. It has turned into North Cuba. Spanish language is the most spoken dialect. If you speak English, you are in the minority.

Every place has it's good parts, it's bad parts, it's rich areas and then it's poor and poverty stricken areas. It's been many a long time since I've been to Florida but is Miami really that bad these days? I've heard the beaches are wonderful, filled with beautiful ladies, as are the other tourist friendly areas. Apologies in advance for contributing to the derailing of this thread.

It isn't the 1980s where there are Cocaine Cowboy Colombian shootouts every day. But it is a very transient society. Still a lot of crime. Cubans are probably the largest ethnic/cultural demographic, and now you have the Venezuelans, Argentinians, Nicaraguans, Haitians, Colombians, etc...that now have moved north to Miami to escape "the Latin American development model" back home...The Brazilians are here in large numbers, too. However, since their country is doing well, they are buying up, in cash, a lot of the luxury condos downtown, etc...which is cool. Pretty girls? Yes, lots of them. A little shallow, not the most cultured or sophisticated. Expect a BMW and a Louis Vuitton bag to be non-negotiable female accessories. Tourist friendly areas? Most definitely. Seems that the Europeans are all over as a result of the weak ($) USD. Beaches are wonderful? Depends what you are looking for. In Miami, Miami Beach has lost its class ever since the Gianni Versace murder which I believe occurred in 1996. The water is okay, nothing to write home about. The beach is okay, really not that stunning. If you want the best beaches in Florida, I firmly believe Palm Beach/Boynton Beach/Delray Beach has superior water colour and sand. It is, however, a much more mature environment...much more low key than Miami. I am probably the least prejudiced person you will ever speak to, but, my argument is, not all of the immigrant groups contribute equally. You will always have bad apples from every country (including Americans), but some make more of an effort to integrate than others. And it seems that the number that wish to integrate into American society is small compared to the number that do not wish to integrate at all. I am also fortunate that I can split my time in S Florida between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Palm Beach. So I get all three flavors of Florida living. Each is distinctly different. I haven't been to Miami since the late 80's and after hearing your report, I doubt that I will be returning there again - ever. Several years ago I was watching an A&E reality show, 48 hours. The episode featured a Miami homicide detective investigating a gruesome murder of an out of state traveler who had traveled there for business, became lost, drove into the wrong part of town, ended up getting mugged and then shot when he tried to get directions. That episode alternated with a Dallas detective investigating a murder in a high crime part of Dallas. But the Miami they showed looked like a third world country. I've wanted to chalk it up to the show's producers making the area seem worse than it really is. While the part of Dallas that they did show was a real POS area, all of Dallas isn't like that. And I remember hearing about the murder of GV and being taken by surprise. Thank you for the tip on which parts of FL are worth going to for the beaches. Galveston has a beach but it's not really anything special.

Texas waterfront looks like swamp water compared to Florida...So if there was a competition between those two, Florida would win in that regard. Palm Beach is quite nice. A lot of older snowbirds and, with a large, wealthy, Jewish community, the city is properly run and kept clean. Fort Lauderdale is a more professional and mature version of Miami. It is probably 50-50 population distribution between "Americans" and "immigrants". The East Coast yachting capital. More white collar. Miami is probably 20 percent "American" and 80 percent "immigrant". It is a lot of fluff and is largely artificial. It isn't very professional or educated, quite superficial. Texas is light years ahead in terms of being a "professional" place. But what do you expect? Economically, it is tourism and hospitality based, with a lot of banking support for Latin America, import/export of goods...Not really a high-tech or engineering hub. And it is a weird dichotomy between median salary and home values...They are inversely related. If you head down, let me know. But to be honest, if you go to Palm Beach, I think you would be a happier camper. It is "ritzy" in the proper Florida tradition of the 1920s still. Miami, not so much. A lot of flash, but it isn't real sophisticated or well done. Some video from the REAL Miami: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoPOfroaKs8 You do realize there is a "Little Haiti" and a "Little Havana", right? I swear it is like being in Haiti or Cuba except you are in Miami.

Really lovely scenery, and you can tell, the pace of life is relaxed.

My above photo will probably be Dutched, but I have not been able to sort out the sizing using Mac correctly. Harald: Thanks again for the tie needle. Have a look here. I found another silver engraved plaque. I am removing the plaque and fitting in the "500 GE Press Photo" along with your tie needle. They will be framed together, and it will match, en suite, with the factory 500 GE silver engraving/rendering. Should look very nice. I wanted you to see it went to a good home.
