Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

This photo resize thing sucks for me.
That photoscape software looks great.
Except, I am using a Mac with Mac OS. Snow Lion or Snow Leopard or whatever it is called.

Anyone able to recommend something else to resize photos ala Mac?

Thanks.

I had the 500 GE Offroad the second day I had it, went shooting in the Everglades and had to take the truck on a trail to get to the range.

Wasn't a real offroad session, but it was off highway. Brabus exhaust really kills ground clearance. And I am not interested in driving through mud.

Rare factory 500 GE photo.

The vehicle is very regal. It has something to do with the paint, I think.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

I was initially not real interested in the Brabus accessories fitted to the 500 GE.

However, once I had translated the German Title (Fahrzeugbrief), I noticed that the title made mention of the Brabus wheels AND the exhaust system, and noted that they were fitted. This was typed onto the title!

That, and out of respect for the prior owner, who wished that her vehicle stay configured with the Brabus parts, means I will keep them.
In her opinion, it is more "exclusive" than AMG, because AMG is "only" the Mercedes "house brand".

I think it is pretty interesting that a German woman has had both of her G-Class cars Brabus fitted (as I mentioned, she has a G400 CDI Cabrio that is all Brabus currently) and helps to establish the provenance and "aura" of the prior owner.

This was a well loved truck. I think the stainless steel coat rack and Brabus parts really demonstrate that the original owner knew what they had and treated it as such.

A vintage Brabus catalog that I have states the following of the Monoblock III Wheel.

"Die Bodyguards" - Brabus "Special Vehicle Program" catalog page describing their armouring program (gepanzert/sondershutz) for the G-Klasse

"The safety vehicle's heavy weight makes the Monoblock III wheel with 1000 Kilogram approved wheel load and defined emergency running properties recommendable"

I am sure purists such as Harald disagree with this choice, but at least the tuning parts have a good story.....

Please ask. I never resize anything. I am a PC Guy that is now a Mac convert. I don't know how to do anything aside from click "Share" in Iphoto and use Iphoto to reduce size for Email. You get 4 flavors. Original Size, Large, Medium, Small (or I think that is what it is). Not sure.

Thanks to the youngster for any advice on what to do and what to download.

I have Microsoft Office, etc...on the Mac stuff I have as well.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

As I mentioned, I wanted to have a factory looking radio with CD player.

I removed the German Sony CD/Cassette deck and installed a Nakamichi MB-X.

It has, built into the radio, a 6 CD changer. You do not have to buy a separate CD changer and worry about hiding it somewhere.

It also has an external 24 bit Digital/Analog Converter (the black box) and an external amplifier, so no heat is transferred inside the radio receiver. The amplifier can also be removed(deleted) if you upgrade to external amplification.

I can listen to my Hans Zimmer Inception soundtrack in style...

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

"Preview" is a native photo application installed on all Mac's
easy and quick

open picture (I chose a screen shot of the thread)
click "Tools"
select "Adjust size..."
for P3 enter 1000 pixels for the longest side
enter resolution 72, if image shows higher

if you want your images crisp:
click "Tools" again
select "Adjust color..."
give "Sharpness" and "Saturation" a little tweak and you are done

in the end when you save your image(s), make sure you save in "jpg"
P3 does not like PNG images
simply select jpg from your drop down menue in Preview

so, part if why my images look nice is that I use a Mac to give them more life

all fine with me. More than 1/2 of the 500 limited edition 500GE were further upgraded by either AMG or Brabus - many for the tune of another 100 grand.
Brabus modified is like Graz built - superb quality and craftsmanship.

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Since you are interested, I will post the fotos of the 1993 IAA (Frankfurt Auto Show) Brabus Modified 500 GE.
This was the show and display car for the International Exhibition, the build price was roundabout 320,000 Deutsche Marks at the time...

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

I looked at buying this 500 GE once upon a time. But, as I said, there is no transparency with the Registered Importers. I did not want another headache.

This is NOT my 500 GE. This IS the Brabus 1993 IAA (Frankfurt AutoShow) Exhibition Car, with full options.

The m117 2 valve V8 was bored and stroked to 5,6 Liters.

The interior was specially upholstered in Brabus Mastik leather...the idea was to give it a distressed look (black/brown colour leather, like a bomber jacket or a well loved and well used sofa)...

Notice that even the entire headliner is leather.

The other clue that it is a real Brabus car is when the engine was upgraded to 5,6 Liters, they fitted a digital thermometer to monitor oil temperature. Look on the far right hand side of the instrument cluster and you will see it.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Also note, that Brabus had a partnership with the German G Club and offered tire carriers fitted with the German G Club logo, ready-painted.

Here is the overall interior foto. Notice also the brass "Brabus 5,6" plaque on the dashboard.

There was a hardtop Short Wheel Base hardtop model made like this, with the 5,6 Liter motor. I think that car would have been very interesting.

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Very nice 500GE. the leather looks very nice. Not a fan of those tubes under the rear bumper and the chrome protective grills on the front turn signal lights.

I had a brabus G36 before. Power is comparable with the 500GE.
No tow hook on the front bumper. That was not available for the 500GE.

congratulations!

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Thanks!

I would want to buy a Brabus G36 Cabrio. I think that 3,6 liter motor is great for the short wheel base model.
But you have to play at higher RPMs to get the power out of the motor.

The 2 valve M117 has more torque at low RPM (from scratch) than even the M119 4 valve motor, which is widely regarded as the finest V8 Mercedes produced. This motor was fitted to the 500E W124 chassis car.

A M119 WILL fit into a G Class engine bay. I have seen TWO AMG built G models with this motor installed. They were factory AMG cars.
